Last night (16.06.2026) I went to NSA Menwith Hill - a US spy bade on the North Yorkshire Moors near Harrogate where the was holding their weekly vigil at the main gates of the base.
The base is used by the US Military to conduct covert missions across various parts of the world where it intercepts communications and has been known to carry out drone attacks in Yemen, Syria, Gaza and Afghanistan. Without Menwith Hill many bombing operations in Iran would not have been possible because the base provides crucial communications, tracking, and intelligence framework which are vital for carrying out the bombing.
The Menwith Hill Accountability Campaign have been campaigning for many years regarding Menwith Hill where they highlight concerns over civilian casualties, a lack of UK parliamentary oversight regarding the US Visiting Forces, and the UK's legal complicity in unauthorised conflicts.

Today (15.06.2026) around 35 protesters gathered outside the QEII Law Courts in Liverpool for an emergency rally to respond to the Court of Appeal judgement about the proscription of Palestine Action. The judgement was played out live to those gathered who were not surprised by the judgement but are defiant.

Former Home Secretary Yvette Cooper rushed through proscribing of Palestine Action as a result of it targeting Israeli-owned weapons manufacturer Elbit Systems. Cooper lumped Palestine Action in with various fascist organisations in order to limit opposition to the plans. The government used the spraying of paint on planes on an RAF base as the cover for the proscription, which also diverted attention away from how lax the security was on the base.

The judgement today was clear; organisations such as Elbit who exist with a main aim of killing and injuring people are acting lawfully and those wanting to stop the death and destruction are now classed as terrorists.

What the judgement tells us is that business interests and profit rules over any level of morality and today will be remembered as a day when civil liberties took another slip in the wrong direction - all under a Prime Minister who claims to be a human rights lawyer.

Today (14.06.2026) was the last running day of LNER A3 60103 'Flying Scotsman' during its visit to the where passengers got to ride behind the world famous express locomotive at 25mph.

Photographed here as it came off shed this morning, approaching Irwell Vale, passing Chest Wheel crossing near Summerseat and finally passing Townsend Fold signal box on its last run to Rawtenstall.

The locomotive was built in Doncaster in 1923 and later this week it will return to the site it was built where it will join LNER A4 60007 'Sir Nigel Gresley' and other locomotives for a special event to mark the closure of "the plant" which has built and maintained locomotives since the late 19th century.

Today (11.06.2026), Pull the Plug on Palantir protested outside the NHS Confederation conference, ConfedExpo, at Manchester Central, where NHS decision-makers and policymakers from across the service are gathering.

This is the last ConfedExpo before the UK government could use the break clause to end its Palantir contract early next year, making it a pivotal moment in the campaign and one of the final chances to show that patients do not want Palantir handling their data.
Concern about the US tech giant has grown, particularly over patient data. Critics warn Palantir could access identifiable information, undermining trust in NHS patient records. Anxiety increased further after reports that Palantir staff could, in some circumstances, access person-identifiable data.

Despite securing such a major contract, there has been very little consultation, and many patients remain unaware of Palantir and what campaigners describe as the threat it poses to their data.

Palantir also owns software used by the US and Israeli militaries to generate bombing targets, and it is believed Palantir software identified the school in Iran where many children were killed in the first strike of joint Israeli-US action. The company also supplies software and data to Immigration Customs and Enforcement (I.C.E.) for raids on immigrant communities in the US, where innocent people have been killed by the state.

Campaigners argue this matters because of Palantir’s ethics. The NHS was founded to improve health, wellbeing and save lives, and many of Palantir’s activities are seen as incompatible with those values. CEO Alex Karp told HBO in 2020, “Our product is used on occasions to kill people,” and recently told investors that Palantir aims to make partner institutions “the very best in the world” and, when necessary, “to scare enemies and on occasions kill them.”

Pride 1. Reform 0.

Today (30.05.2026) the streets of Durham City Centre were full of rainbow flags, love, peace and solidarity as the annual Pride march worked its way through the city to The Sands for the Pride event - Even the sun got the memo.

Earlier this year the Reform UK-led County Council decided to cut the £2,500 funding it provides to Durham Pride citing budget cuts with the aim of trying to stop Durham Pride from going ahead.

Sadly for Reform, the Durham Miners Association worked together with the Trade Union movement to ensure that the event got record funding and the publicity helped to make it the biggest Pride event to take place in the city.

The message was sent out loud and clear; Reform's attempts to silence the LGBTQIA community will not work. Love, hope, unity and solidarity will always win.

Today (24.05.2026) I spent the day at near Doncaster which was holding an open day on their site which contains the largest collection of trolley buses in the world.
The day included the return service of trolley bus number 913 which returned to service for the first time since 2001.
Trolley buses are buses powered by electric from overhead cables with a boom arm - similar to what we see on trams today - and operated in around 50 areas across the country from 1911 until the very last trolley bus ran in Bradford in 1972.
The museum is based at part of the former RAF Sandtoft and the site is a former aircraft hanger but manages to pack in a short circuit for the buses to run on as well as a tea room, shop, toy museum, 1950s pre-fab house and a bicycle museum and was established in 1969.
