Break away from what you’re comfortable with and grow beyond what you think you knew.
I moved away from my 28mm and went for my 85mm for this set. I’ve always thought of an 85mm solely for portraits - it’s been my favourite lens for years - but this time I thought to try it for something else. The 85mm is an incredible lens, so sharp and so much fun to use. I really appreciate the smaller lens size and I’m all here for it. Slimming down my gear gives me more freedom to express. Using the 85mm was so much fun, quite to opposite from the way I’ve been using the 28mm, stepping back and isolating my subject was a different approach - anyway, what do you think?

After sharing a black and white, here is the colour set. After spending years focussing on process and gear and editing and all that stuff - it’s felt like a such a relief taking photos with a completely manual set up - with the manual focus manual aperture lens and completely straight out of camera jpegs. It was so much fun chasing the light in whilst taking a stroll. One thing I did try was one of the - can you spot which photo I used it on?

I’ve never really done this before..!
Thypoch’s manual focus 28mm lens feels like a new world to me, but you know what, I’m in love with it. No autofocus, no distracting zoom lens and in this set, no colour. Stripping everything right back. It’s a slow process that forces you to be methodical in your approach and really makes you think about what you are shooting. One shot at a time. No burst shooting. Paired with the manual dials of the Nikon ZF, this a dream combination and has made me fall in love with photography again. No client pressure, just pure passion for photography. I’ve remembered what it means to enjoy photography. All I think about now is the next shot. Who knew that simplifying the entire process would be the thing that breaks posting anxiety. Beauty truly is in simplicity.
