On Friday I celebrated 3 years working for SWNS and everyday continues to amaze me as I delve into people's unique and fascinating stories across the UK. From train mad Derek in Pelsall, who at 84 years old, still runs his miniature backyard railway, to behind the scenes with Harry Potter actor Mark Williams filming Father Brown, to working through the night into the early hours for the election results in Birmingham, where furious Labour MP Jess Phillips took on a pro-Palestinian mob, who booed as she beat independent candidate by just 693 votes. I was there for Princess Anne's first outing after her horse-related head injury, hunkered down with an incredible survivor of a hippo attack in Zambia who was dragged underwater and thrown around like a rag doll and visited a 'misogynist man cave' nestled in the Forest of Dean, which featured pe*****le Jimmy Saville's tracksuit, a two-headed calf called Ba-Ba and robes worn by K*K members. That museum visit I will never forget as I munched on prawn cocktail crisps in the back office with the owner as he casually showed me intimate personal photographs of Myra Hindley, soon to be on display, some things can never be unseen.
I absolutely love the unpredictability of everyday and whether it be a Spudman battling with the council to keep his pitch, the latest exhibition at Chatsworth House, a 103-year-old influencer, a landlord fighting to keep his bull mural or a 5-year- old girl called Snow White, I strive to capture the essence of every narrative with the tools at my disposal, those being a Nikon Z6 ii and a DJI Mini 3 Pro drone. Who knows what the future holds?
