I found my first Bolete. A Scarletina aka Boletus luridiformis. Found near the end of October. Its pores are mostly red, but yellow around the edge, and very fine. The cap was about 15cm wide, hemispherical with rough dry brown skin. The stipe was around 5-7 cm thich and around 7 - 8 cm high, yellow with heavy speckled red. The flesh turned deep blue when cut. Was found on a small patch of grass.

If well cooked, this may have been very tasty, although I think this specimen was a little old. Its features are very similar to the Boletus luridus, but they have a red net pattern rather than speckles on the stipe.

I'm super happy and excited finding this Bolete. I didn't expect to find something like this 5 minutes from my home. An absolute epic find.

Spore print from Paxillus Involutus that I found the other day. I think it's OK for a first try. Nice brown spores. I've covered them in hairspray to preserve it for a few months. Unfortunately spore prints don't last forever.

Laetiporus sulphureus - Chicken Of The Woods, Sulphur Polypore
I was very exited to find this. I suspected what it was and confirmed when I got home.
found on a dead log in shaded area of Moseley Bog. Large orange polyporus shelves as large as 20-30cm wide. moist and slightly rough serface. breaks quite easily. Flesh is white with a hint of orange near the top serface. the underside is polyporus and damp. no discoloration when i broke or scratched it. Not much smell to it. In good condition but covered in debris.
Edible but must be cooked well and may not agree with everyone so its advised to try a small amount first time. Has the texture of chicken and makes a very good substitute.

Auricularia auricula-judae - Wood Ear
Brown convex fruit body attached laterally to a decaying damp tree stump. Gelatinous texture with no gills. The underside is pale brown almost pink. Again I forgot to smell. Found in Highbury Park near the end of August.
All similar looking fungi are safe to eat when cooked. Best dryed as they don't last long. Often usud in soup. Found all year long maybe more common in winter.
