Evening folks!

I may have overdosed on the old 'leaf peeping' lately so it was back to basics today on my afternoon walk out the back.

A simple study in light, shade and form, with two of the most wonderfully named mountains in the spotlight.

Pen yr Helgi Du and Pen Llithrig yr Wrach
Hill of the Black Hound and Slippery Hill of the Witch.

I found this gorgeous scene yesterday in less than gorgeous weather so I returned today to get the shot.

It's another one of those 'seldom seen' views which I take enormous pleasure in seeing out.

Any of you know this spot? :)

Evening all!

I'm just back from our local Capel Curig bonfire and fireworks display and it's chilly out there so I'm having a couple of warming glasses of red!

I've also got my long fleecy socks on and I'm enjoying an evening of 'hygge' in this cosy mountain cottage!

This is the time of year for me; spending a day outside, immersed in an atmosphere of romance and surrounded by dazzling seasonal colours really makes my heart sing.

Autumn, to me, is bitter sweet.

Tomorrow will be another such day but until then, here's another little snap from yesterdays walk.

Gorgeous mixed woodland backed by one of my favourite Snowdonian peaks :)

Evening folks, an Autumn image to get your weekend started.

I was at this location on Monday, keen to shoot this scene, but I wasn't happy with the result.

Timing is so important in Autumn as a storm can strip the trees and it's game over for another year!

With that in mind I returned today and was much happier with this photograph.

Such a beautiful view, as pretty as anything in the Lake District ;)

I have really been neglecting this page again; my last post was in April.

The good news is that the photography mojo, after several years of going AWOL has returned.

The truth is that I've been very busy with my guiding business making a living and photography for it's own sake has had to take a back seat.

Here's a small selection form the last couple of weeks, all taken from within a few miles of home :)

Greetings!

I thought I'd share another image from yesterday's walk in the Carneddau.

This is Cwm Dulyn, a remote, austere valley and, one of a handful of places in which I find the atmosphere dark, oppressive and almost malevolent. There's just something about it.

On my first visit, many years ago now, I was drawn to this stand of Scots Pine and made a similar image to this one.

Later that day I made my way to the bothy at the head of the cwm and spent a creepy half hour there eating my lunch.

Years later, in appalling weather which made camping impossible, I spent two nights in the bothy on my mountain leader assessment, roaming around this place in pitch darkness, gales and rain with my fellow candidates, demonstrating that we could navigate to the necessary standard to gain the qualification.

We all passed and on receiving the news of our success I drank the bothy dry of all the beer and whiskey left behind by previous occupants.

Folks!

I was out in the wonderful Carneddau today, enjoying a smattering of snow and visibility so good I could see all the way to the Lakeland Fells.

Speaking of which, when I took this shot of Pen yr Helgi Du, a combination of atmospheric conditions and just the right amount of snow rendered the mountain as if it had been drawn by the late, great Alfred Wainwright!

Elidir Fawr really delivered this afternoon...

It delivered wind, rain, sleet, snow and one very brief break in the clouds!

Evening all!

A few weeks ago I had the pleasure of showing Thomas Heaton around my favourite Welsh mountains and we enjoyed a wonderful walk, seeing only two other people all day.

For the photographers amongst you, Thomas needs no introduction but for everyone else, he is arguably Britain's most popular landscape photographer/vlogger with over half a million subscribers to his YouTube channel.

Where did we go?

If you know, you know; I swore him to secrecy!

Join us on this amazing walk on the wild side :)

I have 2 days of less than ideal photography conditions. Firstly, I suffer from the bluest of blue skies followed by a day of socked in low cloud. No matter,...

Evening folks!

Are you ready for another Monday?

Feel like your life is going nowhere?
Dissatisfied and disconsolate?

If these issues chime with you then I am here to help; it could be worse!

Have a listen to four middle-aged landscape photographers chewing the fat over a few sherbets, it might put your plight into perspective ;)

Greetings!

Today's forecast was for a glum day so I decided to dedicate at least the morning to admin.

It was a bit frustrating, whilst replying to emails and sorting out invoices, to see some luscious light out of my window.

Fortunately, with my jobs done, the light remained nice so I nipped out the back for an aimless hour just wandering around with my camera, following my nose and enjoying a blustery, life-affirming wind. I even managed to capture a couple of images that I like :)
