POP remembers Hugh Pevy late of New Zealand and formerly of Portglenone who passed away on this date 10 years ago (2016). Hugh was a son of Ted & Bessie Pevy (nee Scott) was brought up with his three sisters Margaret, Lynn & Wendy. You would have met Hugh out with his first cousins Tommy & Sammy Smyth. At the age of 17 he joined the merchant Navy where he stayed for 8 years, before going to Northland Harbour in Auckland as Tugmaster and later as the Pilotboat Master. Hugh married Kerry Morris and had a family of two Lauren & Chris. Hugh was cremated in New Zealand and some of his ashes were brought back to the Church of Ireland graveyard in Portglenone to be place on his parents grave.
POP has Hugh's wife Kerry, his children Lauren & Chris, his sisters Margaret, Lynn & Wendy, his grandchildren, his cousins Tommy & Margaret and the entire Pevy family in our thoughts and prayers today. We also have Hugh's late parents Ted & Bessie Pevy (nee Scott) and his cousin Sammy Smyth in our prayers too.

As the 2nd day of the Donegal International Rally continues today, we see driver Tommy Speers with co-pilot Joe Law beside him as they took part in a local rally. Over the years many locals took part in rallies all over Ireland and the UK, Tommy & Joe are still well remembered in local rallying circles. We also see one of the roads in Donegal that the rally has taken part in, in years gone by. In this photo Tommy seem to be about to taking off, and I don't think either of them had a pilots licences !!

POP remembers John McLarnon late of Crosskeys Road, Ahoghill who passed away on this date 5 years ago (2021). John was well known in hospitality circles, having worked in the family business all his life from Tullyglass House to the Fort Royal. Just before his death, John was working in The Ramble Inn, as with all the family establishments he was involved in, John give you a first class service, always a great host and made all his customers welcome with a big smile and a chat. John was a nephew of the late Brian Quinn's and would have called out to the Wild Duck Inn when the Quinn family owed it.
POP has John's brothers Ciaran, Gerard, Joseph, Dermot, his sisters Teresa & Geraldine, his Nephews, his Nieces and to the entire McLarnon family in our thoughts and prayers today. We also have John's late parents Dan & Maureen McLarnon (nee Neeson) in our prayers too.

I have been asked to share the following with you.
We are looking help with information on the McGall Family
" Hi there I was wondering if you could kindly help me I am heading over from Scotland to visit Portglenone for the first time ever
My dads Great-Grandfather left Portglenone to go to Scotland where he raised a family and lived to 96 where his son William was a professional footballer who tragically passed away from a brain haemorrhage at 34 so my grandfather lost all contact with that side of the family completely when he was 10 years old my father also went onto become a professional footballer and I am a professional football coach also I have records I will show below of my family that came from Portglenone as I noticed a few posts about McGall’s on the page playing football so definitely reckon it’s from this side of the family the football runs in as no one else in my family were footballers
I’d love to find out some information and hopefully make a connection with living relatives who may have ancestry also as it’s unfortunate that my great grandfather passed so young so me and my dad have always been in the dark about the name McGall if you could kindly help would be very appreciated thanks "

POP remembers John James (Seamus) McKeown late of Greenview, Ballymena, who passed away on this date last year (2025). Seamus is the father of Portglenone ladies Kate Convery from the Largy and Anne McFall Ballymena road. Seamus worked for many year at Logan coaches in Dunloy as a driver, and was held in high regard by his fellow drivers and all his work mates at Logan's. From all accounts Seamus was a great character who loved family get-togethers and a bit of banter.
POP has Seamus's wife Margaret, his daughters Kate & Anne, his other children Sally, Sheena, John, Mairead, Moira, Michael, Geraldine, Jimmy, Monica & Brendan, his Grandchildren, his Great-Grandchildren and the entire McKeown family in our thoughts and prayers today. We also have Seamus's his late son Kieran in our prayers too.

POP remembers Mary Maguire (nee Diamond) late of Kilrea road, Greenlough, who passed away on this date last year (2025). Mary was a quiet lady who lived for her family, you would have often met her out with her daughter Monica at many of the local events in the parish. in years gone by you would have met Mary along with her late husband John Francis at the CCE sessions and local fleadhs as they went to listen to their children playing.
POP has Mary's daughters Anne & Monica, her sons Noel, Paddy & Kieran (Canada), her Grandchildren, Her Great-Grandchildren, her daughter-in-laws Anne, Mary, & Colette, her son-in-law Danny and the entire Maguire & Diamond families in our thoughts and prayers today. We also have Mary's late husband John Francis and her deceased family members in our prayers too.
