Galamsey: Artisanal Gold Mining in Ghana

Galamsey, meaning “gather them and sell”, is a local Ghanaian term referring to the illegal small-scale gold mining in Ghana. Nearly one-third of Ghana's gold is illegally mined. Over 3 million people, or 10% of the country's population, rely on galamsey for their livelihood. In the pursuit of gold that reaches the world's wealthiest nations, the natural environment is irreversibly destroyed—forests are cut down, and rivers are poisoned.

Most of the time, I'm behind the lens capturing moments with my camera, but every now and then, I channel my creativity into painting. While my works may not be considered masterpieces in portraits or landscapes 🙃 I have a knack for crafting stunning photo backdrops.
