In 2019 I had the honour and privilege of photographing my friend Brigitte’s wedding. It was such a wonderful day with smiles and cheers all round. Brigitte had a smile that would light up a room, it’s no wonder so many kind and bubbly people gravitated towards her positive energy. She has a wonderful partner and children who clearly doted on her and you could see how full of pride she was that day seeing them all dressed up so smartly.
Brigitte and I had our horses stabled at the same yard for a time which is how we met. She also used to work at what is now my daughter’s nursery with a few of our other yard friends. We were a tight little friendship group that would always help each other out with the horses and were there to lend an ear or shoulder to cry on when times got tough.
Yesterday I found out the devastating news that Brigitte has passed away. I am heartbroken beyond words, especially on behalf of her family. I cannot begin to imagine the heartache that they are suffering. I hope that the photographs I captured on that special day will be memories that her family can have for a life time to remember how radiant, kind and loving she was. It all feels like a bad dream and it is so incredibly unfair. She was only a few years older than me so it’s a poignant reminder that life really is too short. Make the most of every day, do what makes you happy and hold your loved ones extra tight. Remember to take loads of photographs too as one day they are all we have to remember someone by.
Rest in Peace Brigitte. I find some peace in knowing that you have now been reunited with your mum and dad 🕊
