Red pancakes, props and unicycles 🥞🤸♂️🫖
That pretty much sums up my weekend.
On Friday afternoon I bombed up to my mum’s in Derby so Saturday’s journey would be easier. We had a lovely curry with family, a proper catch up and I actually had a decent rest.
Saturday morning, instead of washing, cleaning, shopping and doing all the usual weekend bits, I was heading over to the NEC for The Photography Show.
I presented in the segment on food photography and then did a live demo showing how I built my red velvet pancake stack that placed 6th internationally in the BIPP awards.
It was amazing to see so many familiar faces, but the people that always have a special place for me are the Food Photography Academy members. We chatted about food, photography and plenty of non-food things too. Their support at events like that means a lot.
A few of us stayed afterwards for a drink that was, frankly, uninspiring and absolutely not worthy of a photo… but the people were.
Then it was back down the motorway, arriving home just in time to see my husband take the boys to the cinema. Which meant the TV remote, a beer, some food and mini eggs. Perfect evening.
Sunday morning… back in the car again. Different motorway this time as we headed down to Portsmouth to see my daughter for Mother’s Day. I always love it when the five of us are back together again.
I was treated to a wander around the Junk Emporium. I’ve driven past it so many times and finally went in. Crockery, cutlery, glassware everywhere… heaven.
I bought a basket’s worth.
Literally.
Including the basket.
The whole lot cost me a tenner.
I’m a cheap date with very low standards.
Then as we were loading everything into the boot, my husband tried to discreetly slide a unicycle in.
My reaction wasn’t “why are you buying that?”
It was…
“You already have one in the shed.”
Yes. Really.
Apparently the old one is rusty and he “needed a new one”, so that looks like our next bit of entertainment.
Fun fact. With Mr D’s dad having run Chessington World of Adventures, and my great grandparents being trick cyclists, we were probably never going to turn out normal 🫣
Lunch by the sea, lots of laughs, and then the long drive home feeling completely shattered but very happy.
So whoooosh… there went the weekend.
I think I now need a weekend to get over the weekend.
And I don’t think I want to see a motorway again for a while.
