Went to RHS Wisley at the weekend with family, took the camera to practice flower and plant photography… left with approximately 300 photos of Mallard chicks instead. Standard behaviour really. 🌸🦆

I mean, how was I supposed to walk past these tiny balls of fluff and pretend I had self-control?

A very welcome little wildlife distraction.

HOW cute are these little guys?! 🦊❤️

I was already excited when the first fox cub appeared, but then more started popping out and before we knew it we were watching them play just a few metres away from us.

They spent the evening chasing each other around, practising their hunting skills, rolling about in the grass and generally being an endless source of entertainment.

At one point I looked over and found one of them curled up on a huge pile of sheep’s wool like it was the world’s comfiest mattress. I don’t blame it to be honest.

It’s moments like this that remind me why I love wildlife photography so much. Not because of the photos, but because you get to witness little snippets of wild lives like this.

Safe to say this fox family completely made my evening.

After hearing not one, but two Nightingales singing from a dense patch of vegetation at my local reserve, we spent over an hour patiently searching for a glimpse of one. All while standing in the blazing sunshine! ☀️🥵

I was convinced they were going to remain hidden and I was ready to call it a day. But as I walked through a shaded area of woodland, I caught movement through the leaves and there it was, perched just long enough for a few photographs and a video.

These birds are far more often heard than seen, so moments like this feel incredibly special. The layers of foliage may not make for the cleanest view, but for me they tell the story of a secretive bird, hidden, filling the woodland with one of Britain’s most beautiful songs.

Some days wildlife photography feels like careful planning and patience and then other days it feels like pure luck (my favourite 😜).

Mum and I were in Norfolk for a few days and had spent the morning in Norwich town, as a stop off on the way back we visited Ranworth and the NWT Broadland Conservation Centre, where we saw some very distant Osprey and had an ice cream 😋. Afterwards we decided to just go for a wander with no real destination in mind.

We ended up on a very quiet bridleway with signs talking about the local wildlife. The signs got our hopes up for Barn Owls while the actual reality was mostly geese.

We could hear a cuckoo somewhere in the distance so kept going, then I spotted a Crane out in a field (photo to come don’t worry!) which was the closest I’ve ever seen one in the wild. That already felt special enough.

But right near the end of the path, I stopped to photograph a Long-tailed Tit perched in a blossom tree. As I lowered my camera, I suddenly realised there was a Tawny Owl sitting just a few feet above our heads. Cue the whispered panic and “oh my god”.

I managed a few shots before we quietly moved on and left it undisturbed, but I still can’t believe how close this encounter was. These photos are only cropped to fit Instagram ratios and not cropped in which honestly feels mad to say.

A completely unplanned walk that turned into one of my favourite wildlife moments in a very long time 🥰🦉

P.S… swipe to the end for a model turn my mum was able to capture on a Live Photo 😅

Sky the Barn Owl hunting amongst the English Bluebells 🪻

My favourite edit from my Bluebell Owl Workshops so far ✨

Every year I struggle to think of ways to capture something new, something different but this year I feel I did that with ease. It really helped that the weather was on our side this year 🌞 and I had a camera that can track these pesky subjects with ease 🦉

I am super excited to edit through the rest and see what else I find 🥰

Long-eared Owl

Over halfway through Bluebell Owl Workshop season and already so many new photos I am loving. With my A9 mk I, flight shots are sooo seamless and it is bringing me so much joy 🥰.

I have loved seeing so many of you again this year and also meeting so many new lovely people. It’s so great seeing everyone’s results from the sessions, I just had to share one of mine ☺️.

Eight sessions remaining! Let’s gooooo!!! (Link in bio for a few spaces still available)

Quiet, rainy days have a way of slowing everything down 🌧️🍂

As the seasons shift at Elmley, even the most familiar faces take on a new kind of beauty. A reminder to pause, look closer, and appreciate the wildlife that’s always there, especially when the reserve feels a little quieter.

There’s something about quiet walks in late autumn that I am very fond of, the soft crunch of the path, muted light, and those unexpected moments where wildlife steps right into the scene as if on cue, could do without the downpours though haha 🌧️

This pheasant appeared during a personal outing with a friend at one of my favourite reserves here in Kent🤎, pausing just long enough for me to take in the colour and character he brought to an otherwise still afternoon. 🍂✨

It’s these gentle encounters that remind me why I love spending time in the field, camera in hand. No pressure, no rush, just watching the landscape breathe and seeing what chooses to reveal itself 😌

If you’d like to spend time exploring a reserve in this way, learning how to create atmospheric wildlife portraits and read the rhythm of the environment, 1–2–1 workshops for 2026 are now open to book. We’ll wander local nature reserves at a relaxed pace, focusing on observation, fieldcraft, and capturing the mood of the moment.

This red deer stag was doing a pretty good job of pretending he wasn’t there… just antlers and attitude rising out of the bracken. Richmond Park was misty first thing, but by the time the sun broke through it turned everything to gold, one of those mornings you know you’ll remember.

And the best bit? As we were heading home around 11am, a short-eared owl drifted right over us. The park was heaving and somehow no one else even looked up. One of those quiet little gifts nature hands you when you’re paying attention.
