Guns Island - likely originates from the Old Norse personal name Gunni, meaning "island of Gunni the Dane". Another possible, but less certain, interpretation is from the Gaelic Eilean nan Gamhna, meaning "island of the stirks" (young cattle). 🌊☘️

St John’s Lighthouse 🌊

Ireland has a total of 70 lighthouse but only 14 of them are considered Great lighthouses.. St Johns lighthouse Lecale County Down is one of them

St John’s is also the last lighthouse on the island of Ireland to have its authentic bulb. Thanks to everyone in the area campaigning for the past 10 years to save it.

The “Black staff river” a very iconic composition by many artist. ⛰️🌊

Abhainn Bheara or Owenvarra, which means "river of the staff" or "river of the staffs/stakes".

The Blackstaff River likely gets its name from a primitive river crossing or causeway made of oak beams or stakes that turned black in the water 🪾

Downpatrick Floods 03.11.23. I never posted these photos around the time as I thought it was too insensitive. Here they are and hopefully it doesn’t repeat.
The mound of down built around 1000 years ago and sitting high and dry along with all the ancient built buildings.

Fun fact - The phone box on market street is the lowest phone box below sea level on the island of Ireland ☘️
