A lovely commission for the photographing 96 year old photographer James Barnor at his retirement home in London. Fabulous few hours spent being shown his archive (in the corridor) and hearing his stories of his life and work.

Delighted to learn my book A Stranger in my Mother’s Kitchen was selected as an example of a ‘Extraordinary & Innovative Photobook’ for what would have been a very special talk by and
Sad I couldn’t make it but delighted my work was included.

Posted • Today is the day that Susan kae Grant and I will be sharing 20 of our favorite photobooks with you via 20 ‘page-turning’ videos and share what makes them satisfying, whether it be successful edits/sequencing, accompanying writing and/or inclusion of related ephemera, choices of materials that serve to amplify the story and thus our experience as readers…. Or could it be the chose structure reveals secrets, or physically engages us in the journey of discovery alongside the artist…

Our goal is to expand your perceptions on what a photobook can be. We hope to see you at our show and tell this morning, part of the Griffin Museum’s Photobook Month.

All who register will receive a detailed handout and a link for replay that will run for two weeks from when you receive it next week.

We can’t wait to share our discoveries with you (11 am -1 pm Eastern time Today 5/11/24) through our chosen 20 artists and their extraordinary photobook projects.

Link for details and registration in my bio or go to griffinmuseum.org to events - photobook month.

See you soon!

Back home after a week in Houston for the for the first time. What a fabulous week! It’s been so lovely sharing my work and meeting some fantastic new people who really appreciated the work. It felt like a really supportive and caring place, I’m so glad I made the decision to go. It’s been hard to juggle motherhood and art, the logistics of leaving your baby for a week to go on a trip to America is just one example, things I totally took for granted in the past. During my maternity break (I say a break but I did manage to publish a book in that time, somehow!) I spent a lot of time thinking about my practice, feeling guilty I’d abandoned it, worrying where I go next and how the heck im supposed to do anything with a young baby! I have to say this week has really restored an appreciation of my work, and I am excited to see where these new connections take it.
