Happening right now: a national workshop for connecting YALTA members with the proposed “Ethiopian Agroecology and Food Systems Consortium”

This workshop is an opportunity to bring together YALTA members and representatives of the Ethiopian Agroecology and Food Systems Consortium to discuss ways to collaborate and develop new strategies for the engagement of youth in the promotion and adoption of agroecology based sustainable food systems in multi-sectorial stakeholders Consortium.

The workshop, hosted by Yalta.initiative ETHIOPIA and MELCA-ETHIOPIA at the Magnolia Hotel Addis Ababa with financial support from the IKEA Foundation, is also intended to help participants expand their knowledge of the Ethiopian food system and the current challenges it faces.

Here’s a recap from the 2022 Yalta.initiative Regional Summit organized by Netherlands Food Partnership - NFP in collaboration with Pelum Uganda under the theme; “Accelerating Youth Driven Agroecological Businesses for Sustainable Food Systems”.

During our time in Kampala, we were able to discuss a variety of important agro-ecological topics, including ideas on how to scale up agro-ecological inventions and approaches. We also had a field excursion visit, a networking opportunity, we celebrated our successes and exchanged insights and lessons, we had the chance to be a part of an exhibition showcasing youth-led Agroecological businesses, and much more.

Overall, the summit was very successful in providing a welcoming, open space for dialogue, sharing, and learning, as well as meeting others who are committed to restorative approaches.

The second and final day of Yalta.initiative Ethiopia "Agroecology Business Exchange and Learning Event" went pretty well, featuring panel discussions, a brief training on Agri-Tech, and a fantastic opportunity for the invited youth to showcase their agroecology-related produce.

According to the youth participants, this two-day session by YALTA Ethiopia was a very enjoyable experience for them to learn some valuable insights that they can implement in their businesses right away.

The second session of Yalta.initiative's 'Agroecology Business Exchange and Learning Event' will take place tomorrow at the ELGEL Hotel and Spa in Addis Abeba. In the second session, a training based on indigenous agro-ecological knowledge and practices will be provided, and then In the afternoon, the youth will showcase their products and give a two-minute presentation.
