This is a Flamboyant tree — and when it blooms, it’s pretty hard to walk past without looking up. 😍

Originally from Madagascar, Delonix regia has become one of the most spectacular trees you can spot around Gran Canaria. 🌴

Its bright red flowers can reach around 10 cm across, while the seed pods are on another scale entirely — up to 70 cm long and holding as many as 50 seeds! 😮

And although the trees we see here are usually much smaller, the species can grow up to 30 metres tall.

Definitely one of those trees that makes summer on the island a little more colourful. ❤️

Have you already been to Mundo del Plátano? 🍌👇

Today I visited Mundo del Plátano in Gran Canaria, and I absolutely loved the experience! 🍌🌴

The tour was really interesting, with lots of fascinating facts, and the delicious tasting at the end made the experience even more memorable!

Next time I have friends visiting Gran Canaria, I’ll definitely recommend this place to them! ❤️ 💯

Castillo del Romeral is a small fishing village on the southeast coast of Gran Canaria - but its history goes back almost 500 years. 😱

Salt production in the area is documented as early as 1537, and in 1677 permission was granted to build a fortress to protect the saltworks and coastline from pirate attacks. 🫪

Today, it’s known for its peaceful seafront and saltwater natural pools, one of the places to enjoy this type of swimming spot in the south of the island. 🤩

Would you believe these giant “sausages” actually grow on a tree? 🌭🌳

This is Kigelia africana, the African sausage tree. It can grow up to 20 metres tall, while its extraordinary fruits can reach around 80 cm and weigh up to 9 kg each!

Its flowers open at night and are pollinated by bats in its native range. The raw fruits are NOT edible.

I spotted this incredible tree right here in Playa del Inglés, Gran Canaria! 🌴

The croissant has travelled a long way before becoming a familiar sight in the bakeries of Gran Canaria.

🥐 13th century — crescent-shaped Kipferl pastries were already known in Austria.
🇦🇹 1839 — Austrian baker August Zang opened a Viennese-style bakery in Paris, helping popularise this type of pastry in France.
🇫🇷 Early 20th century — French bakers developed the butter-laminated version that became the modern croissant we know today.
🇪🇸 20th century — croissants became widely established in Spanish bakery and café culture, including the Canary Islands.

So the croissant in a Gran Canaria bakery carries a story spanning around 700 years — from Central European pastry traditions to the French classic enjoyed around the world today! 😱

⛪ The first Ermita de San Telmo was founded in 1530, almost on the edge of the Atlantic Ocean.

⚔️ It was destroyed in 1599 during the Dutch attack led by Pieter van der Does and was later rebuilt by the local sailors’ guild.

⛵ The chapel served as a place of prayer — and even burial — for the city’s sailors.

🏛️ Today, it preserves one of the most beautiful altarpieces on Gran Canaria and combines Mudéjar architecture with a Gothic-Renaissance entrance.

More than 490 years of maritime history hidden in the heart of Las Palmas.

Yaiza Blanco Seco is one of Lanzarote's best-known dry white wines, made from 100% Malvasía Volcánica grapes grown in the island's unique volcanic soil.

🌋 Each vine is planted in its own volcanic crater and protected by a stone wall from strong Atlantic winds - a winemaking tradition unique to Lanzarote. The wine offers notes of mango, guava, lychee, and citrus, and the Yaiza range has received several international awards! 😱

Although it is produced in Lanzarote, it is widely enjoyed across Gran Canaria, where restaurants and wine shops proudly serve wines from neighboring Canary Islands. 🤩

The Fuente de la Morena was installed in 2008 and is made of bronze. The sculpture depicts a moray eel (Muraenidae) with a human figure, celebrating Gran Canaria's strong connection to the Atlantic Ocean! 😱

Located beside the iconic Maspalomas Lighthouse, it has become one of the area's most photographed landmarks - especially at sunset! 🤩

The fragrant white flowers in this photo belong to the Madagascar jasmine, a climbing plant native to Madagascar! 😱

Despite its name, it's not a true jasmine. It thrives in warm climates like the Canary Islands and is especially famous for its sweet evening fragrance and its use in wedding bouquets around the world! 🤩
