"Las mascarillas están salvando muchas vidas. Es verdad que agobian, sobre todo cuando hace mucho calor, pero bueno, a mí no me importa si conseguimos que mejore la pandemia y además creo que ésta es una oportunidad para aprender mucho de todo".

Además de que, indudablemente, la mascarilla complica la comunicación interpersonal, me apenaba pensar que pudiera llevarnos a pasar desapercibidos entre tantos rostros semiocultos. A perdernos en una masa de seres ordinarios sin interés para los otros. Pero creo que lo estamos resolviendo bastante bien. Pese a que resulta más difícil (re)conocernos por la calle, ahora que los ojos tienen la palabra nos prestamos más atención, nos observamos mejor. Y hasta las miraditas furtivas entre desconocidos se han vuelto más intensas. Quizás es que la mascarilla -o la cara que esconde-, suscita nuestra curiosidad y nos obliga a mantener el contacto visual. Porque es fácil reconocer una sonrisa bajo el tapabocas, pero para eso hay que mirar fijamente a los ojos.

"Besides the fact that the mask undoubtedly complicates interpersonal communication, I was sad to think that it could lead us to go unnoticed among so many half hidden faces. To lose ourselves in a mass of ordinary beings with no interest for the others. But I think we're working it out pretty well. Although it is more difficult to (re)know ourselves in the street, now that our eyes have the word we pay more attention to each other, we observe each other better. And even the furtive glances between strangers have become more intense. Perhaps it is that the mask - or the face it hides -, arouses our curiosity and forces us to maintain eye contact. Because it is easy to recognize a smile under the mask, but for that you have to look straight into the eyes.

"¿Somos los mismos con y sin mascarilla? No, no somos los mismos. Detrás de la mascarilla está un yo que ha comprobado la fragilidad y la vulnerabilidad de nuestro modo de vida. Pero con y sin mascarilla, nos quedan, libres, los ojos. Para mirar el mundo por reconstruir, para buscar en la mirada del otro el sentimiento de comunidad, para saber que estamos separados pero no solos. Me encanta descubrir la risa, la complicidad o la ternura en un cruce de miradas mientras camino por la calle. Estoy aprendiendo, ¡y eso que soy miope!".

"Lo que más echo de menos son los besos y los abrazos. Somos muchos los que hemos pasado la cuarentena solos en casa y es muy duro no tener contacto físico con nadie durante tres meses. El ser humano es un ser social por naturaleza y durante este tiempo me he dado cuenta de que necesito estar con otras personas, abrazarlas, tocarlas, besarlas… Se me está haciendo difícil aprender que los saludos han cambiado, que ya no podemos besarnos ni abrazarnos, pero la mascarilla me ayuda a recordar esta (triste) nueva normalidad."

"Muchas veces voy por la calle, miro a la gente y alucino con la capacidad que tenemos para adaptarnos a todo y querer seguir disfrutando de la vida. Hace unos meses nos parecería de locos ir a tomar unas cañas con mascarilla; mirábamos raro a los pocos que las llevaban. Sonaba a película de terror. Ahora hemos hecho de esa película de terror nuestro día a día. Me obligo a no pensarlo porque personalmente me da mucho miedito"

"La cara dicen que es el espejo del alma, nuestra identidad, quien somos. El feedback facial es un elemento imprescindible de comunicación humana. Viendo las expresiones de los demás podemos intuir qué piensan o cómo se sienten. Ahora una gran parte de nuestro rostro está cubierto para proteger a los demás y protegernos, algo que sustrae algo de nuestra humanidad, de nuestra capacidad de comunicarnos no verbalmente con el resto. El día que no vuelvan a ser necesarias será un gran día para la humanidad, no solo porque habremos vencido al virus, sino porque nos devolverán la forma más directa de comunicarnos".

"La mascarilla es tan necesaria como extraña. También la nueva forma de saludarnos o el tener que guardar una separación con el prójimo que se nos antoja demasiado distante. Sin embargo, mascarilla, saludo y distancia no deben cambiar nuestra singular, diferente y mejor forma de vivir y disfrutar la vida, la familia y los amigos. Cuando nos podamos quitar la mascarilla, espero que los besos y abrazos nos devuelvan muy rápido a nuestra ansiada realidad social, y que ningún otro ma***to virus nos haga renunciar a ella. Nos acordaremos siempre de los que nos dejaron, pero por ellos y por los muchos que nos han ayudado a salir de esta, seamos prudentes y respetuosos. Hoy, la mascarilla es una responsable manera de demostrarlo".

«Al final, supongo que debajo de la mascarilla todos seguimos manteniendo nuestros gestos, rictus, muecas y sonrisas de siempre. Y risas cuando tocan. Que no se vean es otra cuestión. Pero quiero pensar que también en los ojos se reflejan todos estos gestos. Yo he aprendido más o menos a distinguirlos y, creedme, se ven y se agradecen. Llevo mascarilla desde antes de que empezara el confinamiento, por precaución, al ser paciente de riesgo: cuando además de taparte la boca, no tienes cejas ni pestañas, acabas casi haciendo el pino puente para que se vea que muchas veces estás sonriendo. Y se consigue. Me impresiona mucho las veces que salgo ver la ciudad llena de personas con mascarillas, casi como autómatas si no las conocemos. Pero este chismecito ha salvado, salva y salvará muchas vidas, así que sigamos con nuestra mascarilla, a ser posible con una sonrisa debajo de ella».

"Vaya por delante que no me gustan las mascarillas. Porque me cuesta reconocerte y sobre todo porque me impiden verte sonreír. Pero siempre hago lo posible por encontrar el lado positivo de las cosas y con la llegada de la desescalada... de las mascarilllas también. Llegar a una terraza, sentarme con los míos, mirarnos por encima de la mascarilla buscando complicidad y confianza en aquellos a quienes queremos y con los que nos sentimos seguros... y quitárnosla, porque estamos en familia, a cubierto, entre nosotros. Y llámame ingenuo pero me gusta pensar que el bicho no puede con eso".

"En esta época en la que todo el mundo más distancia guarda es curiosamente cuando más cercanía necesitamos; es ahora cuando más nos ocultamos y sin embargo es el momento en que más nos estamos conociendo a nosotros a mismos. Nos saludamos con los codos pero nos abrazamos en el recuerdo de tiempos pasados y en la añoranza de un futuro mejor.
