Ibiza’s club scene is facing a question that hits close to home: has the island lost part of its local soul?
The debate comes as Now Here, the night led by Spanish DJ and producer Paco Osuna, returns to the Club Room at Hï Ibiza with a rare lineup made entirely of Spanish artists, including two names with strong Ibizan roots.
The night will feature Manu González, DJ Oliver and an extended closing set from Paco Osuna, but the bigger story is what DJ Oliver had to say about the current state of clubbing on the island.
According to the Ibizan artist, local talent used to play a much bigger role in the biggest openings and closings of Ibiza’s clubs. Today, he says, it is increasingly rare to see local or even Spanish DJs being given those headline opportunities.
Oliver also pointed out that the issue goes beyond the DJ booth. In his view, many roles across the nightlife industry, from sound technicians to visual designers, are now often filled by professionals from outside Ibiza and outside Spain.
For him, the problem is not only musical. It is cultural, creative and economic. A scene built on local identity is now often shaped by imported brands, outside promoters and safer commercial choices.
He praised Paco Osuna for backing Spanish and island-based talent through Now Here, while also highlighting the work of DIPEF, the Ibiza and Formentera DJs and Producers Association, which continues to push for more opportunities for local professionals.
Ibiza still leads the world in clubbing. But the question is uncomfortable: who is really getting to shape its future? 🎧🔥
