Gabal Maryam is a significant historical and strategic site located south of Ismailia, overlooking the Suez Canal. It holds deep religious and military importance:
Religious Heritage: It is named after the Virgin Mary, as it is believed to have been a resting point for the Holy Family during their journey into Egypt.
The Memorial: The site features the towering "Defense of the Suez Canal Memorial," built in 1930 to honor the soldiers who defended the canal during World War I.
Military Heroism: It was the site of the legendary "Battle of Gabal Maryam" during the October 1973 War, where Egyptian forces successfully prevented the enemy from entering Ismailia.
