‘Top 3’
This took me way too long to make so enjoy, 3 of my favourite shark encounters.
Slide 1 - Thresher shark - Malapascua, Philippines - Monad Shoal is a dive site about 40 minutes from Malapascua and was a thresher shark cleaning station, but since about 2022 the threshers and cleaning station has moved to Kimud Shoal. It is a deep dive site with a large drop off where the sharks arrive every morning to be cleaned by cleaner wrasse. They have likely moved from Monad to Kimud Shoal due to the increased presence of tiger sharks, I saw one tiger here. Threshers are one of my absolute favourite animals, despite being wildly distributed they are rarely seen in most places so this is a very special dive site. Thresher Shark Divers
Slide 2 - Tiger shark - Fuvahmulah, Maldives - This is a shallow dive site only around 8 m deep and is located right at the entrance to the harbour. It is one of the world’s top places to see tiger sharks. Most tigers here are large pregnant females that disappear to give birth then return back to Fuvahmulah. The sharks here are pretty inquisitive and will get rather close, maintaining eye contact is key. Liquid Shark Divers Fuvahmulah | Creative Dive Hub 🦈
Slide 3 - Nurse shark - Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands - The Cayman Islands are full of incredible dive sites, the visibility was incredible, consistently 30 m+ with excellent reefs and drop offs. This was one of my first shark encounters so a special one for me. DNS Diving Grand Cayman
