You all saw the new tower in Muraste, but do you know the history of the place?

Before the new landmark was built, this spot had an old metal staircase and viewing platform that connected upper Muraste down to Meriküla.

Over time, it got old, unsafe, and was closed down.

Local legend says the very first version wasn’t built by the town at all. Rumor has it that a local guy put it up just so his girlfriend could drink her morning coffee with a sea view. True or not, the spot has always been about that amazing view.

Today, the brand-new Meriküla Observation Tower completely transforms the cliff:

- 📐 Height: About 35 meters tall, with the viewing deck at 22 meters.
- 🌊 Elevation: Sitting right on the cliff edge, the top is over 50 meters above sea level.
- 🏗️ Structure: Built with a modern design, a pedestrian bridge

Enne uue maamärgi ehitamist oli siin vana metallist trepistik ja vaateplatvorm, mis ühendas Muraste ülaosa Merikülaga.
Aja jooksul see amortiseerus, muutus ohtlikuks ja suleti.

Kohalik legend räägib, et kõige esimese versiooni ei ehitanud mitte vald, vaid keegi kohalik romantiline mees puhtalt selleks, et tema tüdruksõber saaks hommikukohvi merevaatega nautida. Olgu sellega kuidas on, aga see koht on alati olnud imelise vaate päralt.

Tänaseks on täiesti uus Meriküla vaatetorn selle paiga täielikult muutnud:

📐 Kõrgus: Umbes 35 meetrit kõrge, vaateplatvorm asub 22 meetri kõrgusel.

🌊 Asukoht: Serval seistes ulatub platvorm üle 50 meetri merepinnast kõrgemale.

🏗️ Ehitus: Kaasaegne disain, jalakäijate sild ja lift.

👁️ Vaade: Selge ilmaga näeb Naissaart, Aegna saart ja Tallinna.

Mäo Mõis: A piece of Estonian history frozen in time.

🇪🇪Located right in the heart of Estonia in Mäo village (Paide city, Järva County), this manor sits right next to the busy Tallinn-Tartu highway.

A quick look back: First mentioned in the 16th century, the manor takes its name from its early owners, the Meck family.

🎼Famous visitors: In the early 20th century, the world-famous Russian composer Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov spent several summers here, hosting private concerts within these walls.

🏚️After various owners and roles—including a children’s home and tractor station—the building fell into disrepair.

What’s happening now?

The manor is currently in a state of ruin. While there have been various attempts to renovate it over the decades—including a new roof added in the late 80s/early 90s—work eventually stalled.

Today, it remains privately owned and largely stands as a shell, serving as a quiet, haunting contrast to the modern industrial village that has grown up around it.

This area is technically a district of Kohtla-Järve, despite being located over 10 km away from the city center and just 1 km away from the central town of Jõhvi.

Kohtla-Järve is a unique toponym case in Estonia: it is a single municipality composed of several geographically separated districts that grew around former industrial sites.

THE SILENT SIGNAL: LAITSE RAADIOJAAM 📡

📌Once a powerhouse of the airwaves, now a decaying relic.

Here’s the reality behind the Laitse Radio Station:

• Secret Origins: Built between 1947 and 1949 under Stalin’s regime as «Shock Construction Site No. 2.» It was a high-priority, secretive project.

• Trophy Tech: The station originally ran on 100 kW English «Standard» transmitters, brought from Hungary as post-WWII reparations.

• The Mission: Officially, it served civil broadcasting (Radio Estonia). In reality, it was a strategic node for special communications and «jamming» Western radio signals during the Cold War.

• The End: The final broadcast cut out on July 1, 1998, at 12:13 PM. It was the last medium-wave transmitter in Estonia to go dark. ❌

From the drone, you can see the skeleton of the empire—collapsed roofs, crumbling skywalks, and the grand architecture of a forgotten ideological war. Nature is reclaiming the frequencies.

📌Kursi Church (Kursi Maarja-Eliisabeti kirik)

⛪️A notable neo-Gothic church located in Jõgevamaa, Estonia. Its current appearance dates back to 1872.

The defining characteristic of this church is its unusual architecture featuring 12 towers in total: one prominent main bell tower and 11 smaller ornamental pinnacles (finials).

This makes it unique within Estonia, as no other church in the country shares this specific configuration.

The twelve towers are said to symbolize the twelve apostles. ⛪️

The church is set in a peaceful location, slightly removed from main routes, surrounded by natural landscape.
