This is Ahtme, Estonia. 🏠

This area is technically a district of Kohtla-Järve, despite being located over 10 km away from the city center and just 1 km away from the central town of Jõhvi.

Kohtla-Järve is a unique toponym case in Estonia: it is a single municipality composed of several geographically separated districts that grew around former industrial sites.

The total population of the municipality is approximately 33,500. 👬👭👫

THE SILENT SIGNAL: LAITSE RAADIOJAAM 📡

📌Once a powerhouse of the airwaves, now a decaying relic.

Here’s the reality behind the Laitse Radio Station:

• Secret Origins: Built between 1947 and 1949 under Stalin’s regime as «Shock Construction Site No. 2.» It was a high-priority, secretive project.

• Trophy Tech: The station originally ran on 100 kW English «Standard» transmitters, brought from Hungary as post-WWII reparations.

• The Mission: Officially, it served civil broadcasting (Radio Estonia). In reality, it was a strategic node for special communications and «jamming» Western radio signals during the Cold War.

• The End: The final broadcast cut out on July 1, 1998, at 12:13 PM. It was the last medium-wave transmitter in Estonia to go dark. ❌

From the drone, you can see the skeleton of the empire—collapsed roofs, crumbling skywalks, and the grand architecture of a forgotten ideological war. Nature is reclaiming the frequencies.

📌Kursi Church (Kursi Maarja-Eliisabeti kirik)

⛪️A notable neo-Gothic church located in Jõgevamaa, Estonia. Its current appearance dates back to 1872.

The defining characteristic of this church is its unusual architecture featuring 12 towers in total: one prominent main bell tower and 11 smaller ornamental pinnacles (finials).

This makes it unique within Estonia, as no other church in the country shares this specific configuration.

The twelve towers are said to symbolize the twelve apostles. ⛪️

The church is set in a peaceful location, slightly removed from main routes, surrounded by natural landscape.

Harju Risti Chuch ⛪️

You might notice the tower has a very unusual semi-circular shape.

Originally, it was one of the few round towers in the country, but in the 17th century, part of it collapsed.

🛠️ Instead of a full restoration, it was rebuilt in this unique “half-pencil” form we see today.

But that’s not the only secret! ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Hidden inside the tower is the oldest church bell in Estonia, dating back to the 14th century. Still standing strong after 700 years. 🔔✨

Pajaka Manor – winter silence and restored elegance 🏰

Hidden in the Estonian countryside, Pajaka Manor tells a story that stretches back to the 17th century.

Over the centuries, the estate changed hands several times, reflecting the typical Baltic-German manor history that shaped much of rural Estonia.

🛠️What makes Pajaka especially beautiful today is that we see it in wonderful restored condition.

The main building stands proud and elegant, surrounded by peaceful winter landscapes that make it feel almost timeless from above.

Next to the manor, you can also notice the charming auxiliary building with the red roof – historically used as a servants’ house.

Together, these buildings create a complete manor ensemble that feels both authentic and alive.

The Smallest Fortress in the Baltics! 🇪🇪🏰

Ever wondered what the tiniest castle looks like from above? 🤔

Say hello to Kiiu Tower (Kiiu torn), a unique gem hidden in Harju County.

A bit of history: 🔽🔽🔽

• Built: Around 1520 by Fabian von Tiesenhausen

• Purpose: It was a residential vassal fortress

With walls up to 1.8 meters thick, it was designed to keep the owners safe during local skirmishes.

📌Unique fact: It’s officially the smallest medieval defense tower in the Baltic states.

What’s happening there now?

Today, this cozy 4-story tower is a popular stop for travelers. It houses a charming cafe where you can taste the famous Kiiu Torn liqueur — a local legend made right here since the Soviet era.
Pure fairytale vibes, especially when the snow hits! ❄️✨

A Soviet-era water tower turned into a gateway to the stars. 🇪🇪✨

In the small Estonian village of Munalaskme stands this 18-meter brick giant.
Once part of a local farm’s water system, it has been reborn as the Rahva Observatoorium (The People’s Observatory). 👀

What makes it truly special?

✅ It wasn’t built by a government or a corporation. It’s a pure passion project, brought to life by local enthusiasts and supported by over 1,500 people through crowdfunding.

Climb to the 5th floor, and you’ll find a custom-built telescope housed under the “Astroshell” dome.

With a magnification of 164x, it’s powerful enough to reveal everything from the rings of Saturn to distant galaxies and solar flares.

Proof that with enough enthusiasm, even an old water tower can reach the moon. 🌕🔭

Built between the 10th and 12th centuries, this wasn’t just a small outpost—it was a massive stronghold with a limestone wall stretching nearly 580 meters! 🧱

It was so formidable that it famously survived sieges by both Russian princes and Danish crusaders.

While the wooden structures are long gone, standing atop these ancient ramparts feels like stepping back into the Viking Age.

If you’re exploring the forests of Rapla County, this hidden gem is a must-see. The views from above really show the incredible engineering of our ancestors! 🦅✨

Most people know Rõuge for its record-breaking lake, but for us, this place is all about geometry, unique landforms, and incredible contrasts. 💦☘️☁️

From the bird’s-eye view, you can truly appreciate the gems of this region:

• The Nightingale Tower (Pesapuu): Estonia’s most futuristic lookout tower that looks like a high-tech nest from above.
