This Eurasian Eagle-Owl nest was discovered thanks to two friends who know the area well.
As we approached, both adults left the nest, each flying in opposite directions to draw our attention away. The female quickly disappeared into the distance, while the male stayed nearby. He called repeatedly, landed on the ground, and even walked toward us before taking off again a little farther away. It was a remarkable distraction display, carefully designed to lead us away from the nest and keep the chicks safe.
While on the ground, at his most vulnerable, he was suddenly attacked by a falcon. I wasn’t able to capture the attack itself, but moments later I managed to photograph one of my favorite wildlife moments.
We left the area shortly afterward to avoid causing any further disturbance. My friends continued checking on the nest over the following weeks, until the young owls finally took their first flight.
