So last Saturday was the day, and I photographed these beautiful women in my studio. And what can I say: it was incredibly amazing. Not only because I simply love getting to know people, but also because I realized once again why I chose this profession and why I never want to give it up. In recent years, my focus has mainly been on editorial work. I’ve photographed super exciting stories and amazing people and traveled all over the country. I wouldn’t want to miss that, and it’s still an absolute privilege for me to earn my living this way. But you know what? On Saturday, I realized once again that I really missed this one-on-one interaction, this work with the sole aim of creating beautiful and authentic images in which my subjects recognize themselves. And nothing else. No meta-level, no crazy story, no “I only had 1.27 minutes for the portrait.” Of course, all of that has its appeal, that’s clear. But it’s also damn exhausting, and the hustle with declining fees and dwindling publishers is real. Until Saturday, I wasn’t sure if I still wanted to be a photographer or if I’d rather become an undertaker. Seriously.
And now, yes, now I think the cemetery can wait. I want to picture all of you.
So, thanks for your trust, ladies 💜
