We came for the sunrise, but the mountains had other plans. Rain, thunder and lightning rolled through the valley before dawn, turning our planned hike into an easy decision: stay put and wait for the storm to pass.

So instead, we watched the storm unfold over Adelboden - beautiful and frightening at the same time. ⚡️

A study of chasing light, and missing it.

We hiked up for the midnight sun and got clouds instead. It never broke on the summit. But light like this doesn’t wait for the plan. On the drive home, half asleep, it finally came low across the fells and turned an empty road into the frame we’d been walking hours to find.

24 hours in the mountains. Crystal clear lake water, good food at the summit watching the sunset, and a sky full of shooting stars. ⛰️

Almost two in the morning, and the sun was still sitting above the fells.

In June it doesn’t set over Levi, Finland. It just drops lower, grazes the horizon and stretches the light out until a golden hour becomes an entire night. Everything takes that color.
