Let’s talk about the Black Forest: a few months ago I visited this beautiful area in Germany’s south west for a week to explore Freiburg, the surrounding villages and obviously the mountains and the forests. We spent 4 nights on an isolated farm 15min north of St Peter which was our base for daily hikes, waterfall tours and family adventures.
Photo adventures for me look a little different these days as a husband and dad since spending hours outside in the morning, evening and night and sleeping/location scouting during the day are not really an option anymore. I still get to see a lot while travelling with my family but waiting for hours at a spot for the light to be perfect or wandering aimlessly through nature to find a unique composition are a little challenging.
That’s why I decided to get help from a local and booked a photo tour with ._.corona from on the one morning I allocated for sunrise photography. Luckily, we had a bit of flexibility and waited for the day with the best light. We started in Todtnau and drove to the Herzogenhorn from were we had an amazing 360 degree view of all the major mountains in the Black Forest (Feldberg, Belchen etc) but more impressively the Alps themselves on the horizon in Switzerland with the Eiger, Mönch and Jungrau peaks and even Mount Blanc in France in the far distance.
While it wasn’t a day with colourful cloud coverage (something I often look for in Australia), the cloudless sky and the soft morning sun light created its own unique atmosphere. I could have spent hours up there looking into the distance and can’t wait to be back one day (maybe in winter for sunset?)
Was great chatting with Michael about his story and get to know more about the area as well as visiting his gallery .galerie.todtnau later in town and then catching up with my family again.
