Keyboard Couch, 2024 by Liam Bartell
The Keyboard Couch is based on early computer keyboards, especially Hartmut Esslinger’s designs of the 1980s. It references an object embedded in our collective memory, one that almost everybody has had a haptic experience with. Enlarged in scale, the keyboard becomes a daybed. By blowing up this interface, it shrinks the room around it and questions the relationship between physical and digital experience, creating an absurd shift in perception.
The couch is made of soft foam, upholstered in smooth velvet tabric, with letters embroidered on its surface.
The individual keys are detachable, leaving room for interaction and play.
