Natchez Mississippi cemetery. It's amazing how much art work is in a cemetery. Especially older headstones. The craftsmanship is unbelievable.
These pictures are of the older part of the cemetery, which is usually where all the amazing stone work is in many of them. In this cemetery people have like their own little pieces of land with their plots on it. Many of the plots are fenced in for the families. Almost like they have their own "houses" and it's like city blocks. Pretty cool actually.
It doesn't matter what part of the country I visit a cemetery in, I always want to go to the older part because that really is where all of the art work is. Also to see how the stone has aged and weathered.
Every time I visit one, I ask myself, who were these people? What did they do? I'm constantly curious. Why is their stone the way it is? What does the stone say about them? Is it wordy? Is it short? I'm constantly curious.
I know I sound morbid, but I truly believe that cemeteries are under-appreciated. There is a reason why people spend so much money on stones.
And I LOVE saturating colors. Cemeteries are perfect for it!!
