Forty-eight hours in seawater. Then developer.

Shot on a cold morning — dogs, strangers, reeds, bare trees, still water. The salt worked on the emulsion while the canister sat submerged. Some frames held. Others bleached out or collapsed into grain. A few found something I couldn’t have planned.

Film souping. 35mm black and white. One roll.

Este es Bert. Tiene ochenta años. Antes de los perros hubo lombrices en un tarro de cristal, luego caracoles, peces tropicales, serpientes boa. Los animales le costaron dos años de escuela — no porque no pudiera estudiar, sino porque le importaban más.
Rakker tiene cinco meses. El nombre en holandés significa niño travieso. Bert lo eligió antes de conocerlo. Le quedó bien.
Entre el segundo y el tercer perro hubo dos meses en que la casa estuvo vacía. Bert hablaba con las paredes.

Dit is Bert. Hij is tachtig jaar. Voor de honden waren er wormen in een glazen pot, dan slakken, tropische vissen, boa’s die hij muizen voerde. De dieren kostten hem twee jaar school — niet omdat hij niet kon leren, maar omdat ze hem meer interesseerden.
Rakker is vijf maanden. De naam betekent deugniet. Bert koos hem voordat hij hem kende. Het paste.
Tussen de tweede en de derde hond waren er twee maanden waarin het huis leeg was. Bert praatte tegen de muren.

This is Bert. He is eighty years old. Before the dogs there were worms in a glass jar, then snails, tropical fish, boa constrictors he fed mice. Animals cost him two years of school — not because he couldn’t study, but because they mattered more.
Rakker is five months old. The name means little rascal in Dutch. Bert chose it before meeting him. It fit.
Between the second and third dog there were two months when the house was empty. Bert talked to the walls.

Casey llegó hace tres años. En el parque todos lo llaman Kees. Peter también. El nombre completo lo escuché por primera vez durante esta conversación.
Su hija prometió que si algo les pasaba, Casey iría con ella. Con esa red debajo, se atrevieron.
Peter ha tenido animales toda su vida. Sabe cómo termina esto. Lo hace igual.

Este es el primer capítulo de Honden Aan De Lijn — un trabajo documental de un año sobre cinco personas mayores en Noord-Holland y sus perros. Realizado durante mi máster en LABASAD. Fotografía analógica, formato medio y 35mm.

Casey kwam drie jaar geleden. In het park noemen ze hem Kees. Peter ook. Zijn volledige naam hoorde ik voor het eerst tijdens dit gesprek.
Zijn dochter beloofde dat als er iets met hen zou gebeuren, Casey naar haar zou gaan. Met dat vangnet durfden ze het aan.
Peter heeft zijn hele leven dieren gehad. Hij weet hoe het eindigt. Hij doet het toch.

Dit is het eerste hoofdstuk van Honden Aan De Lijn — een documentair project van een jaar over vijf ouderen in Noord-Holland en hun honden. Gemaakt tijdens mijn master aan LABASAD. Analoge fotografie, middenformaat en 35mm.

Peter has had animals his whole life. He knows how this ends. He does it anyway.

This is the first chapter of Honden Aan De Lijn — a year-long documentary project about five elderly people in Noord-Holland and their dogs. Made during my master’s at LABASAD. Analog photography, medium format and 35mm.

During the past winter I walked along the edges of the landscape where I live in the Netherlands.

In the fog, the trees appeared as silent bodies suspended in an almost empty space.

These photographs observe a landscape in suspension — a place where time slows down and the environment seems to hold its breath.

Some mornings the landscape feels heavier than usual.
The trees stand still, but it feels like they are trying to say something.
I walked through the fields with a strange weight in my chest -
as if the branches were whispering a story I couldn’t yet understand.
Maybe some places speak.
Maybe we just don’t always know how to listen.

Here’s a polished IG caption that keeps your vibe but flows a bit tighter:

Lately I’ve fallen in love with mistakes. Shooting expired film, picking up random €10 gear and just seeing what happens.

This roll is expired HR50 35mm, paired with a Speedlite 200 flash, and honestly the unpredictability is the best part.

I think I got tired of sharp, clean, perfect photos. Give me grain, weird colors, blown highlights and happy accidents any day.
