Painting and Inspiration
Often a painting is so much more than its reference photo. I took the reference photo (not included here) on this Autumn camping trip with my dear friend from school, Emily, to Manitoulin island, just north of the Bruce Peninsula. One of my favourite things on a hike is watching how the golden sunlight dances through the semi-transparent leaves and filters through them. This is what I set out to capture in this painting.

But also, I know what makes me fond of the light and shadow through the trees is the positive memories associated with hiking. The good conversation, or the good company enjoying the beauty of God's creation in pleasant silence. And, not to mention the warm mug of hot cocoa afterward at the camp site.

This trip was my first camping experience without any "parental" figure present, just two girlfriends catching up and enjoying each other's company (and building their own fires!) where time slows down. This is such a fond memory of mine 😊 Emily Staunton sending love to you today! 🧡🧡

Pause, Take a Still Moment, my first solo art exhibition, is just around the corner! It will be on display at Art Speak Gallery in Windsor, Ontario from Sep 28th-Oct 4th, with a reception evening on Friday, Oct 3rd. This exhibition is especially for those who value moments of calm, quiet serenity, especially in nature. It's about finding the stillness, even amidst the chaos of the world, in the beauty and deeper calm that surrounds us.

I went in today to check out the artwork and, wow! There is such a stunning variety and talent, all from local artists! 😍 There's truly something there for every taste 🎨

My original acrylic painting, After the Climb, is inspired by the hard-to-put-into-words kind of awe I feel, surrounded by the view from the top after a steep hike. Such moments put things into perspective—turning people into ants and trees into dragonflies. It's humbling that we are each a small (yet significant) part of a vast, grand, beautiful landscape.

A couple favourite details of this lily bouquet & tea time painting I'm working on so far. To me, this piece is about bonding time with the girls 👭🫖🌸 There was a tea room in a neighbouring town we used to go to, to celebrate my birthday. (Annabelle's, it was called, out in Kingsville.) They always had the finest display and these beautiful tea cups and SUCH a wide range of cool teas. Was always a fine experience and made a great memory.
What are your favourite things to do with the girls?

Living in Windsor, Ontario, an area that is ENTIRELY flat, I am always somewhat in awe of rock formations, with the richness of their colours from red, to green, brown, and gold tones. I am certainly no geologist, but man, rocks are COOL. 😎 How beautiful that our earth naturally produces so many organic, unique shapes in a variety of earthy tones.
