I’m very heartbroken to hear that sweet Lily passed away this weekend 🕊️

Lily was one of my very first models when I began photographing dogs back in 2016 and it wasn’t long before her rescue sister Abbey joined the family. I was lucky to photograph both of them over the years and getting to know them was one of the things that made those early years so special.

Lily was beautiful, resilient, and determined, with a talent for scent work. But what I remember most are those eyes and that smile. There was something deeply genuine about her and she was always so much fun to work with.

One of the samples of artwork I made of Lily still hangs on my gallery wall. I see her smiling face every day, which feels especially meaningful now.

My heart goes out to her humans, who gave Lily every opportunity to express who she was, to explore the things she loved, and to know a tremendous amount of love and comfort throughout her life.

Thank you, Lily, for being one of the dogs who became part of my story so early on. I’m grateful I got to know you and photograph you and Abby over all of those years. You will be incredibly missed ❤️

I cannot fathom that it has been 5 years today since I gazed into those impossibly blue eyes as we woke up one last time together. I miss our daily “chats”, the sound of your tippy toes down the hallway, and the endless adventures we had trekking around North America. Your absence is still so profound. I can’t believe we got to walk this earth together at the same time, and for that I am so very, very grateful ❤️

One year ago today, I said goodbye to my beloved adventure buddy and partner in crime, CLUTCH the cat. Having spent time over the years thinking of the many ways I wanted to honour him when it was his time to move on, I didn’t anticipate how completely shattered and heartbroken I would be when it did (and still am.) I posted nothing and only a few of my close friends and family knew. I quickly realized that I couldn’t possibly sum up our adventures and what he meant to me without writing a novel so I did nothing. I sat in my sadness and that’s ok. I’ve told his story a million times on his birthdays so I won’t get into that again here. I do want to say though, that as someone who has battled with anxiety over the years, he was a constant source of comfort and peace who saved me on many of the hardest days and for that I am forever grateful. He taught me a lot and made me a stronger person. A year later, I still break down a couple of times a week thinking of him and waiting for him to walk around the corner and jump up in my lap as I dig into my editing or curl up against my tummy and purr when my insomnia rears up. I’ll never be able to fully express how much he changed my life but will hold on to every memory I have with him for as long as I can. To anyone who says these magical little creatures are “just a cat (or just a dog)”, know that to someone, they could have been everything. So with that, all I can do is urge anyone with a special animal in their life to hold them tight, love them hard, and never take a single day for granted.

Sweet LUNA 🌙 A gentle soul with the kindest eyes.

Sadly, her parents had to say goodbye to her yesterday after a brave fight.

With her goofy, beach-loving spirit and luscious polar bear floof, watching her stroll beneath the sunbeams would make anyone smile.

It was an incredible honour to photograph you over the years and be witness to a few moments of your life shared with the people who meant everything to you, and you to them.

Thinking of her family and holding you in my heart as you navigate this loss 🕊️

“ZACK recently came to VOKRA when his elderly owner could no longer care for him. It was a big adjustment for him to move to a new home, but he has done very well. Zack is a sweet and affectionate guy who is very shy with people that he has just met. It took time to win him over, but slowly, and with patience, he started spending more time with his foster family and has now been described as king of the house! Zack does not like having his tummy or feet touched, but he loves to cuddle and be petted on the head, cheeks, and back. He has coexisted with small dogs in two different homes, his original home and his foster home. Zack would be best in a quiet home with experienced, patient adopters who will give him time to adjust to his new environment. If there are children in the home, they should be older. Do you have a home for this handsome guy?”
