Flashback Friday

I went to shoot Ahren Belisle.

I left wanting to see Emile Mansour again.

Emile has that kind of comedy that finds the ridiculous in being human — the awkward s**t, the differences, the failures, and all the things we spend way too much energy pretending are normal.

It’s sharp, self-aware, and never feels like he’s trying too hard to drag you to the punchline. He just gets you there.

And then keeps going.

I spent part of his set shooting and the other part trying not to f**k up photos because I was laughing.

That’s a pretty solid endorsement.

Emile Mansour is f**king hilarious. Catch him when you get the chance. I absolutely will.

Was great meeting you!

Flashback Friday - Ahren Belisle is f**king hilarious. But underneath the jokes is something I respect even more.

He uses humour to talk about mental health, the s**t we carry, and the different ways we find to get through it.

That’s something I stand behind 100%.

We all have our own ways of handling what life throws at us. Some people talk. Some create. Some disappear into music. Some of us hide behind a camera. Ahren turns it into comedy and gets an entire room laughing with him.

There’s something powerful about being able to take the darker parts of life, drag them into the light, and f**king laugh at them.

Funny as hell. Unapologetically himself. And a f**king champion in my books.

Just one piece of advice:

Don’t get caught in the crowd… or congratulations, you’re Ahren’s new plaything for the evening.

And yes, I witnessed casualties. 😂

Thank you for the hookup Ahren!

I guess aircraft have been part of my life since pretty much day one.

I was born just outside one of Canada’s better-known airbases, and then spent much of my childhood growing up in Europe in the ’80s, where airbases and aircraft were simply part of the scenery.

Canada was still home, so holidays meant flying back across the Atlantic. I spent a lot of time on planes as a kid—airports, terminals, long flights and staring out windows watching the ground disappear beneath us. Flying was just a normal part of life.

Somewhere in all of that, I developed a lifelong fascination with aircraft.

It’s also why I’ll probably always regret never getting my pilot’s licence. Fixed wing or rotor, I would have been happy with either. I still look up when I hear something interesting overhead, and I don’t think that will ever change.

Getting out to photograph the airshow brought a lot of that back.

The crowds were difficult for me, but put a camera in my hands and aircraft in the sky and I can disappear into my own little world. I had an absolute blast photographing these machines and probably could have stayed there shooting all day.

And after spending the day successfully tracking aircraft moving at hundreds of kilometres an hour through a telephoto lens…

I couldn’t find my f**king car. 😂

Apparently stationary targets are my weakness.

Worth every minute.

Some bands sit on your bucket list for years.

Six Feet Under was one of mine.

Finally getting the chance to photograph Chris Barnes and the band was every bit as satisfying as I’d hoped. I’d jump at the opportunity to do it again in a heartbeat.

Thanks for another unforgettable night.

Crobot came out with one speed: full send.

Sold out. Zero chill. The Rickshaw was an absolute furnace, and I probably sweat out 3 lbs trying to keep up with these guys. They never stopped moving, never stopped posing, and never gave the crowd a chance to catch its breath.

This is what rock ‘n’ roll is supposed to feel like.

Teenage me would’ve never believed I’d one day be in the pit photographing Corrosion of Conformity.

Sweaty. Loud. Sold out. Exactly how it should be.

C.O.C. still hits as hard as ever.

YEGG didn’t feel polished or manufactured Sunday night — they felt hungry.

The kind of death metal that crawls out of sweaty clubs, smells like spilled beer and blown speakers, and reminds you why underground heavy music still matters.

The lights dropped.
The amps roared.
And MIDNIGHT came crawling out of hell with chains rattling behind them.

A wall of raw blackened speed metal fury ripped through the Rickshaw Theatre Friday night — loud, dirty, unapologetic, and absolutely glorious.

The kind of set that leaves your ears ringing, your throat destroyed, and your soul grinning like a maniac.

🔥 BRUJERÍA INVADED THE RICKSHAW 🔥

Sold the f**k out. Vancouver got baptized in blood, sweat, and pure Mexican deathgrind sorcery last Friday night. The Theatre shook like it was summoning the devil himself.

The crew unleashed hell — no mercy, no apologies, just raw power straight from the streets of Aztlán. If you were there, you know the pit was a warzone and the walls are still bleeding.

Photos don’t do it justice… but here’s the evidence.
