What’s in your grab-and-go hunting kit?
First, I always recommend heading into the woods with all the gear you need to stay safe. But sometimes you need to go light to get in close to an animal, or you’re just jumping out of the truck or boat for a quick look.
I keep a hip pack within reach with my essentials to stay safe, navigate, and care for an animal if that quick look turns into a hunt.
My grab-and-go kit includes a knife, headlamp, spare batteries, fire-starting supplies (lighter and candle), emergency blanket, a bit of rope, and a few hunting calls. I also always carry my phone and a backup battery. I rely on my phone a ton for navigation!
I keep everything in a small detachable hip bag that clips onto my pack or stays handy in the truck or boat. That way, when it’s time to move quickly, I can grab it and go.
What’s one essential you never head into the woods without?
This is the SeekOutside Mesa Hip Pack. I run it as a top pack on my main hunting pack; it helps me keep my gear organized, and I can pop it off for a quick transition to a light hunt.
Thanks to Dave Gu for the video and a fun hunt together.
