A little behind-the-scenes of something very special! I'm very excited to share that I've begun developing concepts, colors and characters for an upcoming children's book in collaboration with Kadence Legacy Fund This story is about the powerful bond between a child and her service dog. Over the next several months I'll be bringing this story to life with hand-drawn illustrations! Watch the video to see the very first glimpse into the early creative process. I can't wait to take you along on this journey as the story unfolds! I really love the control and detail I can achieve when using any pencil, marker, or a combination of these. There is nothing fancy needed. A pencil, a fine tip black marker and an acrylic paint marker.

I'm working away on some images for the Kadence Legacy Fund! 🦋 Kadencelegacyfund.ca There is so much more to come, with lots of sketches and illustrations on the way. As I wait for more supplies to arrive, I've also started something else. I've taken an old mixed media image from 2001, and put it on a large canvas. These are sketches of Kadence and her service dog, Sadie. These are some prep work for a book that her mom, Tina Gillies, wrote. The story explains how her daughter's service dog helped her through all of her difficult cancer treatments, and mental health challenges. Sadie, was always by Kadence's side as a constant, supportive companion for a child dealing with so much. Tina has started a charity in memory of Kadence to help pay for the cost of service dogs for those in need. It's an amazing way to honor her daughter and help others dealing with illness, PTSD, and other mental or physical health challenges. As a veteran with pain, injuries and now a grieving mom, I'm so inspired by Tina's strength to carry on and help people in such a meaningful way! I'm so blessed to be asked to illustrate her book 🙏. Apparently, these sketches made her tear up; I only hope to get it just right for her and that it can reach those who need it most!! www.kadencelegacyfund.ca
