I’m not going to downplay the many feelings of being here in South Africa by attempting to put any semblance of coherence or depth here on IG.

But if this string of photos and screenshots get you to read my half baked thoughts on substack then maybe the brain constipation I relieved over a few days, some naps, intermittent excursions and meditations would be shared :)

I hope even within my experiences there maybe a nugget of thought that provokes something in you.

Some lovely memories from my first Toronto Community Natural Dye days back in mid-Dec!

Thank you to those you came to commune with these plant colours and with me. ✨🙏🏾

(Many of which came with me from my studio in Oaxaca last summer)

Super grateful to share my practice with you. With these events it’s always the people and plants that make it- the way you fill up the room, are open to conversation, share this present moment in life together. It reminds me that memory is alive and changes as we do.

Gracias por la tierra y las plantas en Oaxaca también ✨🫶🏽

Hi friends! Wanted to share with you all that Josh To and I have started making micro batches of drinking chocolate! We just made our third micro batch and we want to share it with you.

Our cacao journey started 8 years while I was taking a break between jobs to visit some friends in the states. My friend shared their stash of bean to bar chocolates and tea with me and my eyes were open to the world of cacao.

Cacao is a wonderful fruit that was first cultivated and brought into culture by the ancient Olmecs, Aztecs and Mayans as a medicine, ritual and prayer to the gods. Cacao was referred to as the 'food of the gods' and was also currency for barter for many years.

Through colonization and trading we eventually got chocolate (once it is ground up and liquefied), a food that is not a need but a desire and pleasure.

We all love a bite of chocolate even though many conventional brands actually have you hooked on the sugar, textures and additives.

For about 5 years, I became obsessed with learning about the world of cacao. The true story of it. So much so like a tea practice, my cacao practice has been alongside me in my creative practice, community practice and even career for some time!

Josh and I held chocolate tastings for over 2 years to share our knowledge about cacao that we traveled to South America and Central America to farms and producers to learn about. I also ended running chocolate tastings and tours with a local tour company for several years and eventually worked briefly with a local Toronto bean to bar maker.

For many years we've wanted to be educators and experience hosts around cacao and didn't have any intentions to make it.

But as our philosophies around this food evolved from the portals of sensory and tastings to the more communal and ancestral, we started to understand that cacao was meant to be a carrier and messenger for stories.

Stories of connection and communal living and of being with one another in love and truth; something that can be really hard in our modern disconnected world.

So while we are still figuring out this part of our journey, we hope we can share it with those we know. Through a beverage we all know how to savour but is rich and abundant in character and warming and heart opening in nature.

In this batch we are asking as we enjoy the warmth of chocolate:
What is home? What is ritual?

For so many of us, movement, change and re-rooting is synonymous with life. What do our rituals look like throughout these changes? How do we honour the bonds we have to places and people around the world that we are connected to?

We hope this batch will help you in your re-rooting and grounding. Hopefully, you’ll get to enjoy it with friends and community too. This is our micro-batch #3 of drinking chocolate bars, made with care, starting from the producers in Lachuá, Guatemala, to our cacao brokers, and all the people listed below. Cacao seeds made into chocolate have come a LONG way to be shared.

We hope that we can share our hearts so that we can all connect with our own hearts within a world of disconnect.

embracing the community hive mind and sharing some new things happening at my studio!

I have long been terrified by a self-perceived emotional edge around asking for help for so many insecure reasons such as: who am I to ask, you're too much, no one wants to see it, just figure it out yourself, wait wait wait...motivation goes stale --> idea dies pipeline. Anyway, you get it.

I even became a marketer to explore this edge! And failed as a photographer because this edge of being seen scared me (but I would spend all this time seeing others...that was the real fail, not that I didn't make $...another story)

What this edge really shows me is that my soul desires to do something new and scary, like putting myself out there AND that I'm making it all about myself. Which it is, but also it's not.

Let me explain my indoctrinations a bit:

The pattern of narrative that exists is this insistence that to serve the world and the people you touch means to not serve yourself. But the paradox is really that following what serves you actually serves the people around you MORE. I know, it makes NO sense to our colonized-capitalized corners.

Like respecting our own thoughts means we should just go on timeout in a corner because someone else is better and you should follow that. Well, the water we are in is inside of us but we don't have to become the water.

Anyway, my point is that are no dichotomies and harsh edges in the land of living well, just soft sky gradients, community care, play and dye days!

Clarity emerges between decay. (or how my being needs to play before it can work 🙃)

My brain wants to do everything while my body wants to just stare at the sky and breath. So that’s where we are right now.

It’s been some trying weeks, with friends being sick or being mentally exhausted, take lots of care 🌸❤️

Always grateful to share my cacao practice alongside .sanpress ✨

As we continue to shape .taller; decomposing expectations of ideas and of ourselves, we can find the clarity of what we want to say in the expressions of the land and our inner landscapes.

Jasmine (.sanpress) and I are back with our next Cacao and Tea experience!

The last year has been full of learnings about our minds as body and our body as mind. In our embodied practices in cacao and tea, we are exploring the autumn in full sensory noticing. Noticing the sweetness of decay and the slow phases that shape us as we evolve.

Let’s dive into these roots & routes together!

Only 4 spots left in downtown Toronto, Oct 15th!

Memorias que tienen mucha luz y alegría, entretejido en mi existencia🌳 / Things that make my heart explode ✨

Heading into the next four weeks of changing landscape, transitions, switching languages of the tongue, mind and body. Reminded to find the moments that fill my lungs with breath; that exhale as silken energy flows.

My movement practice these days look like daily eight brocades qigong and the once a week half primary series Ashtanga, each asana as meditation, being next to knowledge and absorbing what is meant for this moment.
