Is it so easy to make a self-portrait?
⠀
You put the camera on a tripod, set it on timer mode, and just make a few shots. It would seem like that’s it! Yet it only seems so..
⠀
Before you take your camera out of the bag, you have to choose the location, decide about the lighting scheme, clothes, doing your hair and makeup, which lens to use, what props to use, and set up the tripod. You’ll then have to either set your camera on timer mode or manage through an app, control the camera settings, pose yourself without the help of another photographer, who’d tell you precisely how to put your arm, turn your face and whatnot, check on what you get in the camera, pose yourself again, but differently, shoot again, take a short break to check how it’s turning out, put these drafts on a computer, select the shots you like, after some time have another selecting session, make basic edits on those picks in Lightroom, export them, open Photoshop and make final edits, maybe with intervals of a day or two (a month or even a year), save those edits every time, and finally indulge in the beauty of your final results. In the whole process a lot depends on inspiration.
⠀
In case I forgot anything, other photographers can fill it in.
⠀
The other option is to do the photoshoot with your phone, where your skin will end up blurry automatically, even when you zoom in you might not see any wrinkles, you’ll usually have a well detailed background, where you’ll see everything you want and don’t want. Yet it’s much faster. Don’t even need to carry around any weights such as cameras and lenses.
⠀
Which do you choose?
