Signs of risk:

• You haven’t plugged it in for years
• It’s over 5 years old

External hard drives are GREAT for storing family photo libraries 👍
Especially if:
• You have decades of photos/videos
• Your computer doesn’t have enough space
• You want one centralized photo hub

Best practices:
• Use your hard drive as your main photo library
• Keep a SECOND copy elsewhere (cloud or another drive)
• Plug it in regularly to refresh backups
• Replace older drives every 5 years or so
• Store it somewhere safe and dry

The important thing:
👉 Your hard drive should not be your ONLY copy.
Think of it as your Photo Headquarters 🖥️

One of the biggest myths about digital photos?
People assume storage devices last forever.
Unfortunately… they don’t.

Hard drives fail.
USB drives degrade.
CDs and DVDs become unreadable.
Phones get damaged or replaced.
Even cloud storage only works if your account stays active and maintained ☁️

That’s why backup isn’t a one-time project — it’s an ongoing habit.
The goal isn’t perfection.

The goal is making sure your memories still exist years from now 💛
