Sometimes the coolest critters are right under your nose! Backyard biodiversity is always amazing! And almost every time I find something new or unique I’ve never seen before.

This housefly was hijacked by Entomophthora muscae, a parasitic fungus that takes control of its host's brain.

Infected flies climb grass stems, lock their legs, and spread their wings in a death pose. Overnight the fungus erupts through the abdomen as white spore sacs, firing spores sideways at dusk to infect the next victim.

From the Palaeolithic era until modern day, humans have scoured the lands they occupied. Modern day humans strip the earth for precious materials like rare earth minerals, oil and gas, coal, trees, fertilizers, and anything else that can be exploited for “value”.
