A RAINBOW AURORA AT SUNSET

It happened on a quiet stretch of the Florida Gulf Coast, right as the Sun touched the horizon and the shoreline turned into a mirror.

The bright color bands look like a painting, but the real idea behind it is simple: sunlight + moisture + thin cloud layers. At sunset, the light travels through more atmosphere, turning warm and intense. When it passes through fine sea mist and layered clouds, the light can scatter and separate into color tones, and the wet sand reflects everything back — so the beach glows like it’s holding the colors.

Where you can see colorful sunset skies in the USA:

Florida Gulf Coast (Clearwater, Siesta Key, Naples)

California coast (San Diego to Big Sur)

Outer Banks, NC

Hawaiʻi (beaches with mist and fast-changing skies)
Best timing: last 5–15 minutes before sunset, especially after a humid day when the air is hazy and the clouds are layered.
