On Sunday, June 7, the Centre d’art Daphne in Montreal hosted the book launch of Eeyou poet and writer Margaret Sam-Cromarty.

At 92 years old, Margaret shared several of her poems from her new book James Bay Memoirs and Other Stories with an audience that included family members and supporters. Among those in attendance were the CNYC Youth Grand Chief Jade Mukash and Executive Director Dale Cooper from the Cree Nation Arts and Crafts Association.

I had the privilege of speaking with Margaret and sharing many beautiful laughs together. I also had the opportunity to interview editor Elise Couture-Grondin about how she first heard of and met Margaret Sam-Cromarty, and about the journey of bringing this book to life.

Be sure to tune in to JBCCS this week to hear these interviews.

If you want to purchase a copy you can get your copy at the Wachiya Store in Old Montreal or on Amazon.

It was truly an honour to attend this special event and celebrate the voice, wisdom, and creativity of one of our Eeyou Elders 😊
