Kay Ross Photography Family Photography Studio Our Desire is to capture the natural beauty of life.

To create art that expresses a strong human connection and highlights what is most precious to us: our memories, our children, our families and our relationship with both those we love and the world around us.

This adorable little soul came in for her session and completely understood the assignment.

One of the questions I get asked most when we’re planning a newborn session is, “When is the best time?”
And honestly, my answer might be a little different than what you hear from other photographers.

The industry answer is usually within those first 10 days. And while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, I don’t believe it’s the only right answer.

Because those first few days can be A LOT.

Your whole world has just changed. Your body has changed. Your sleep has changed. Your family dynamic has changed. You’re figuring out how to keep this tiny human alive while simultaneously wondering when you last showered.

And sometimes, you’re just not ready for pictures yet.

And that is completely okay.

Your newborn session should never feel like another thing you have to squeeze into an already overwhelming few weeks. There is no magic deadline where the beautiful, sleepy newborn moments suddenly disappear.

Will your images look different if your baby is 6 days old versus 4 weeks old? Absolutely.

But different doesn’t mean less beautiful.

At 6 days, maybe we capture all those tiny, sleepy, curled-up details.

At 4 weeks, maybe we see more eye contact, those little stretches, bigger expressions, and the beginning of their personality showing up.

Both are beautiful.

Both are fleeting.

And both are part of your baby's story.

So if you’re sitting there thinking, “I really want newborn pictures, but I’m just not ready yet…”

Take a breath.

There’s no wrong time.

We’ll make beautiful memories whenever you and your baby are ready.

Maternity sessions have always felt that way to me. They live in that beautiful space between chapters

The last few weeks have been filled with enjoying the sunshine, editing, hanging out with and photographing the most amazing families, editing, playing in the sand, editing ....hahaha but I needed to pause and share this image. This wedding party had me laughing from the moment I first said hello, they were so warm, welcoming and a crazy amount of fun, it felt like a party the entire day.

Some people have been in front of my camera for so long that they start to feel like and just become family, and this incredible young man is one of them.
Over the years, he's patiently gone along with more of his mom's and my wild ideas than I can count, always with a smile (and, let's be honest... maybe a bribe or two or three ).
For more than a decade we've shared so many adventures together. We've run through fields, fished for killer whales, swam with mermaids, brought out the snowboards and four-wheelers, celebrated countless visits with Santa, and even created memories alongside his cousins and grandparents. Watching him grow from a little guy into the amazing young man he is today has been such a privilege.
Mr. K, thank you for always being your kind, easygoing, wonderful self. It has truly been an honour to capture so many chapters of your story. I have no doubt you're going to do incredible things, and I can't wait to see where life takes you next.
