Is there such a thing as TOO many amanita muscaria? 🍄 I don’t think there is.

A few more snaps from my first trip to Saturna Island )I already can’t wait to go back). The Southern Gulf Islands are my number one recommendation for a local-ish weekend getaway.

Shaggy Mane is one of my favourite mushrooms to stumble upon. Coprinus comatus is an ink cap, meaning it turns to a black, inky goop as it ages. Many use this ink in artwork! I mostly just enjoy the many phases of this mushroom, especially when it starts to curl upward with black ink. Edible when very young, these mushrooms tend to grow in grassy areas in groups. Have you seen these before? Do you think their ink is cool or gross? 😅

Tips for finding my favourite mushroom: amanita muscaria! 🍄

Small but mighty. Teeny little fungi were the name of the game yesterday! (With some 🍄 for good measure).

I’m sorry, but wearable mushrooms? Where have they been all my life?! The magical La Bottega di Pan has been filling my feed with whimsy for a while now, and when she offered to send me a few mushrooms pins, I leapt at the opportunity. My outfits just got a lot more fun(gi)!

Alpine friends: wh**ky jack (otherwise known as a Canada Jay) and a Sooty Grouse! Both seemed very accustomed to humans feeding them (the wh**ky jack tried to steal my sandwich out of my hands multiple times). No birds were fed in the making of these photos. The Wh**ky Jacks are clearly very used to being hand fed, so much so that if you put your hand out, they will happily land on it and give you the side eye for being empty-handed 😅

A few fungi faves from this last week to kick off my FAVE month! Welcome, October! Starting off with the Bleeding Hydnellum! This was the youngest specimen I’ve ever found (they’re prettiest when they’re young!)

Sharp-scaly cap (one of my fave pholiotas! They look like they’ve been breaded and deep fried)

A classic. Fly agaric!

Honey mushrooms have started much earlier than I’m used to! These are my “spark mushroom” that started my obsession with fungi

False turkey tail growing in a very unique pattern on a broken off branch.

Upright coral mixing with the foliage.

More honeys!

Another shot of the bleeding hydnellum

False turkey tail yet again!
