It’s usually the last one.
The planned shots are done.
You’ve stopped thinking about your pose.
You’re not trying to look good anymore.
And then I say:
“One more.”
That’s when you relax.
Your expression changes.
And suddenly…
there you are.
Not posing.
Not performing.

She was only in Ottawa for a couple of days. When she called to tell me her flight was the next day, we knew we had to make the most of our time together.
But there was one problem.
She was nervous. She didn’t know what to do with her hands, her face, her posture, or her smile.
And honestly? That’s more common than you think.
You shouldn’t have to know how to pose to have a portrait session you love.
You shouldn’t have to arrive knowing your angles or worrying about whether you look awkward.
That’s my job.
My job is to guide you, help you relax, and create an environment where you can stop thinking about the camera and start enjoying the moment.
Because sometimes, the best portraits happen when you finally stop trying to look perfect.

We see so much noise, negativity, and division every day that sometimes I think we need more reminders of the quiet good happening right in front of us.

A child feeling safe.
A parent being present.
Two people who know, without needing to say it, “I’m here.”

And maybe one day, these photographs will do more than bring this family back to a moment.

Maybe they’ll remind someone else to put the phone down, make the memory, and hold onto it.
