RHRatcliffe Photography Provide fine original wall art and prints in different forms for your home and office I love this quote. Sometimes there is a story to be told.

"Taking an image, freezing a moment, reveals how rich reality truly is.” Anonymous. Photography has taught me to see the beauty in the world around me in a way that I never did before. I am always looking for something in my surroundings that is a little bit different that I can freeze in time. Architecture, city scenes, landscapes and nature are my favourite subjects. Thank-you for taking time

Winter Harbour - This photograph looks across the harbour entrance of Port Credit, Ontario, at the bow of a ship that started its life in 1905 as the William E. Corey, a Great Lakes freighter. The ship was only 6 months old when it was caught in what became known as the “Mataafa Blow”, one of the worst “Witch of November” storm disasters ever to hit Lake Superior. Corey was one of many ships that were wrecked or sank in the hurricane force winds. The storm also claimed 78 sailors’ lives. Corey was driven aground in the Apostle Islands. A massive effort was required to pull the ship free and refloat her. Back in service in 1906 the Corey carried cargo on the Great Lakes until the 1960s. In 1963 the boat was sold and renamed the SS Ridgetown. The ship’s final resting place is Port Credit where in 1974 it was loaded with cement and rocks and partially sunk to form a permanent breakwater.
On the January morning when this picture was taken “sea smoke” hung over the water. Sea smoke occurs when very cold air meets water that is not as cold. It was one of those days where you start to lose the feeling in your fingers in a matter of minutes even with your gloves on!
