I had no idea that picking up a camera would bring me so much closer to nature simply by teaching me the art of noticing the little things.

The Clearwing Hummingbird Moth is another bucket-list species I’ve always wanted to see, and tonight, while tending to my lawn, I noticed this little visitor stopping by my lilac tree for a snack. 🌸

So, without further ado, meet the Clearwing Hummingbird Moth—a remarkable pollinator known for its transparent wings and ability to hover while feeding on nectar. A fascinating species and an absolute treat to photograph! 📸

Meet the American Red Squirrel — tiny, energetic, and never short on attitude. These little forest residents are known for their curiosity and their habit of stashing away food for winter in hundreds of hidden caches.

This little one kept a careful eye on me for a few minutes before finally deciding I could be trusted enough to accept a snack from my hand. 🥰 Such a treat!

Meet the Tree Swallow — a tiny aerial acrobat known for its shimmering blue feathers and incredible speed in flight. These birds spend most of their time catching insects mid-air and can migrate thousands of kilometers each year between their breeding and wintering grounds.

Did you know bird feathers aren’t actually blue? They appear blue to the human eye due to the way light reflects and scatters off microscopic structures within the feathers rather than from blue pigment itself!

To vote, head to the powassan library page and click the blue “contact us” button at the top of their page, then click on the blue section marked “2026 photo contest”, you’ll find my photos in this album and all you need to do is like them.

Alternatively, if you search the library page and go straight to the “photos” tab you’ll see an album under the same name of “2026 photo contest”, you’ll can like the photos from there too!
