Reflections of History:

Stone that remembers 🗼
Ottawa builds its skyline out of memory, spires reaching for a democracy still being written, a hotel dressed as a castle to guard the seat of government, and bronze figures frozen mid-stride beneath a granite arch, forever answering a call from over a century ago.
The Peace Tower has stood since 1927, rebuilt after fire took the original Centre Block, its Gothic Revival lines chosen deliberately to echo the weight of parliamentary history. A few blocks away, the Château Laurier rose between 1908 and 1912 in the same French Gothic language, so precisely matched that Ottawa quietly enforced this style across its federal buildings for decades after. And beneath it all, The Response, 22 bronze soldiers walking through stone, sculpted by Vernon March and finished by his siblings after his death, a monument less about victory than about the willingness to go.
Different centuries, same architectural conversation.

Folded Light, Sculpted from Steel..

Inspired by seagulls, seaplanes, and hang-gliders drifting off Grouse Mountain, its white galvanized steel skin blurs the line between structure and sculpture..

Guardians of the Castle in the City
Watching over the city since 1939 🗼

These carved figures sit high above the streets on the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, one of the city’s grand railway hotels and affectionately known as the “Castle in the City.” Construction actually began a decade earlier in 1928, but the Great Depression halted work for nearly five years before the building was finally completed as a relief project and opened its doors .
It was built by the Canadian National Railway, designed by architects John S. Archibald and John Schofield.
It was opened on May 29, 1939, just in time to host King George VI and Queen Elizabeth on their royal tour.

Carved, not built 🌊

Some buildings sit in the sky.

This one seems to breathe with it.

This is Alberni by Kengo Kuma, a 43-storey Vancouver tower designed by legendary Japanese architect Kengo Kuma.

Reflections of history

Sinclair Centre, Vancouver

What began as four distinct buildings, the earliest dating to 1910 in Edwardian Baroque style, was later unified beneath a modern glass atrium in one of Vancouver’s most celebrated adaptive reuse projects. Restored by Henriquez Partners Architects in the 1980s, it remains a landmark example of how heritage and modern design can coexist.
