Les Garçons

Les Garçons Montreal-based photographer/director duo represented by the wonderful people at L'Éloi. We’re storytellers at heart. Let’s make something great together!

We’ve been creating images and telling stories together for over 15 years. We got started as an art director-writer team in the agency world, and in our work today, we’re still always chasing the ‘big idea’. Our work continues to be conceptual, and will frequently incorporate text and design elements. We like to create images that are insightful, colourful, sometimes slightly magical, and articula

te a passionate and provocative point of view. As table-top specialists, our craft is in the artful control of light and shadow, and the creation of atmosphere and effects that range from the nuanced and natural to the dramatic and theatrical. Our approach is also highly stylized and graphic, and we love to blend elements of the real and surreal. Above all, we like to bring a sense of play to our work. We see our studio as a laboratory for the imagination, where anything is possible, and everyone is welcome.

This series was inspired by the strong low sun and lengthening shadows that filled the month of October here in Montréal. It was like a month-long Indian summer, roaring with colour. It's been ages since we shot with natural sunlight, and it was great fun chasing the light around the studio.

We had a lot of fun shooting this series for The Groomed Man Company, a line of premium grooming products from Australia. These products are loaded with natural ingredients and smell good enough to eat. A veritable feast for your face!

New work for La Biscuitery Inc. fresh from the oven. 🍪 Special thanks to Roxanne Chagnon for the amazing sets!

This series was created for the cookie shop Le Biscuitery in Montreal. We imagined a minimal and architectural playground for the cookies to inhabit and come to life. Here the cookies float, play and interact in the simple yet colourful dreamscape.

One of our early confinement projects was this little vegetable scrap garden. There was still snow on the ground outside when we got started, and the warm spring light in the house was a thrilling novelty. Now it’s time to plant these little characters, and see how they like being in the ground. Looking forward to spicy turnip greens in salads this summer!

The biggest challenge for us in self-isolation is not being able to gather, especially this weekend. Every year at this time we look forward to sitting at the extra-long family table and passing the ham and scalloped potatoes back and forth, and sharing the excitement of spring. Like most of you, we've discovered the experience of virtual gathering - the awkward and chaotic but hilarious and heartwarming cocktail hour or birthday party. This series is about this new conviviality, and the feeling of being separated but joined through our screens, by social media challenges, and shared balcony applause. We're all in this together. Happy Easter.
