The island of Burano, Italy was so cute! It’s one of the lagoon islands north of Venice, Italy. I didn’t actually decide to go until that morning and I’m so glad we went. We took a vaporetto (public transport boat) to Burano first, and then to Murano. Burano is super cute if you’re into walking around and colourful houses. We went pretty early and did not find it crowded at all. Murano was very much brick buildings that were not so interesting and a million shops selling glass. I’m happy we went but I could have skipped it as I’m not really into buying glass items. We bought a 24 hour vaporetto pass so that night we went up and down the Grand Canal which was really lovely. We used the free Rick Steeves audio guide as our tour guide and it worked very well. Venice, Italy and the islands are by far one of the most atmospheric and picturesque cities I’ve ever visited!

I lived in Denmark for a year when I was in my teens and it was beyond mind blowing to bring my kids back to this wonderful little country. I thought they’d be more impressed when I started speaking Danish but I don’t think they thought much of it. Highlight for me was this stunning church which I had been wanting to photograph forever. Highlight for them (and one of the trip highlights) was Tivoli!

I’ve finally taken the time to go through (most) of my old external hard drive and pull the photos out to save in a place that I can easily access. It’s a complicated long process - I’ve taken a LOT of photos and they are in all sorts of different hard drives and formats.

But it’s worth it - I love them. I’m going to try my hand at re-editing a few of them just for fun and see how it goes. This is not a re-edit but an older one I just rediscovered. It’s in Montreal’s Mile End under the underpass. My son is holding the umbrella.

Photos from our trip to Costa Rice summer 2025. Our time was split between La Fortuna and Playa Guiones.

Here are some of the places we ate:
Nosara:
-Rosi’s Soda Tica
-Tacos y Tacos
-Organico Bakery & Supermarket

La Fortuna
-Soda Viquez
I think we really mostly ate at home or lunch at random spots.

Activities:
Nosara was mostly beach although we did take a surf class (there are lots of schools - see what works for you - I didn’t particularly love our instructor) and a trip to the Ostional Nacional Wildlife Refuge with a guide to see turtles laying eggs which was very special.

La Fortuna
-Mistico Hanging Bridges with Richard Gareo as a guide - this was probably a highlight for us all. Richard was amazing.
-Baldi Hot Springs Resort - very touristy but good for kids.
-Fortuna Waterfall - it was very nice - keep in mind that you have to pay
-Mirador el Silencio - we chose this because it was less expensive than Arenal 1968
-Skyadventures ZIpline - very expensive but extremely memorable and fun.
-Eden Chocolate Tour - educational and definitely looked a little more low key than some of the plantations in town

Costa Rica is not cheap. Going in the summer will be slightly cheaper as it is low season (it will also be rainier). We bought groceries for almost all of our meals except probably most lunches. The majority of our expenses were in activities in La Fortuna, groceries and accommodation. After much debate we rented a car and were happy that we did.
