After the fire, the land was hardly recognizable.

What was once open range had been blackened and scarred, the timber standing burned and broken against the hills. Smoke still hung in the distance, and the ground carried the silence left behind by a devastating forest fire.But cattle don’t know the fire is over. They just know to find somewhere to survive. So an old-time cattle rancher saddled his horse and rode out, following fence lines, draws, and familiar trails through country that had changed overnight. No fancy equipment, no easy answers—just a weathered cowboy, a good horse, and the responsibility of bringing his cattle home. He rode through the ash and deadfall, checking the old places where cattle would seek shelter, listening for bawls in the timber and watching for tracks in the burned earth.This is ranching the old way. When disaster comes, you don't quit. You saddle up, ride out, and find your cattle.

Some things are worth riding through the ashes for.
