I listened to an interesting podcast interview with a photographer who said he wasn’t a wedding photographer but he is a photographer who photographs weddings. It totally reframed how I’m currently thinking about how the experts say to stay in one lane at a time so that people recognize your work by your aesthetic blah blah blah - so here it is:
I am a photographer who photographs:
- weddings in

a comfortable natural artistic, yet real, aesthetic,
- Santa Claus in a positive memory manner,
- headshots that show professional friendliness,
- families that memorialize relationships,
- portraits that reveal character,
- shopping centres that show value and traffic,
- new building architecture photography that shares a vision of the designer and efforts of the builders and owners
- and personal work that tells stories
In the end, there are different stories to share and different ways that photographs tell them - and I want to make pictures that are unique to each subject I get to photograph.

Thousands of cars pass over the Vimy Memorial Bridge between Riverside South and Barrhaven every hour. It’s also a great landmark for wedding pictures with access from Claudette Cain Park and Chapman Mills Conservation Area - if you don’t mind walking.
Maria and Ian and their wedding party were willing, so here we are!

Maria’s prewedding with - I love that makeup artists like to use window light for a true to colour feel (and also because it often means I can shoot through glass and not interrupt their process).

"What do you do together?"

Amy and Daniel met through Kendo.

So after we made the invitation photographs they needed, we made the photographs that felt like them.

The ones their friends will point to and say:

"Yep. That's Amy and Daniel."

Because the goal isn't to create a version of you.

It's to recognize the one that already exists.

Two perspectives, modified setups.

I can see either (or both) of these photographs hanging on Maria and Ian's wall in thirty years

But here's the thing: the black & white photograph was set up and made by me and the colour was set up and made by Bilal DaHro who assisted/second shot with me.

And most importantly, these couldn't have been made without Maria, Ian and their wedding party's enthusiasm.

Vimy Memorial Bridge

As part of my planning process I scout locations 2 weeks before each wedding I photograph.
I'll be photographing Maria & Ian's wedding on May 22nd and one of our stops will be the Vimy Memorial Bridge.
*The last time I was under the bridge was for a winter engagement session with Hannah and Austin, the last two pictures in this series

The making of Hannah & Malcolm's portrait in front of St. Finnans in Alexandria, Ontario.

Titled "From Where We Come" has two meanings - having just been married in St Finnans (in the background) it makes sense plus that they are standing in Hannah's Grandfather's old pick up truck completes the heritage connection.

As I head into a weekend with three unique winter engagement sessions I wanted to share some of Lisa and Peter's pictures from two weeks ago at Strathmere in North Gower.

As they will be getting married at Strathmere this summer Lisa contacted the staff to see if we could make pictures on their grounds. "Absolutely" was their answer and they also allowed us to take pictures inside.

This session was Lisa & Peter's "save-the-date" session - I have known Lisa since my days as the marketing director at Carlingwood and she booked me without an official meeting. We will be doing an "official" engagement session in the spring.

Some neat news to share. I was recently featured in Neighbours of Chapel Hill magazine.

Photography has taken me through a few chapters in life: retail and marketing, documenting history, Santa photos, family portraits, and weddings that stretch from quiet backyard vows to elegant estate celebrations. The through-line for me has always been the same: people.

Thank you to everyone who has trusted me to share your story and to those I haven’t met yet, I’d love to.
