I just applied the first coat of Rubio Monocoat to one of my many current/upcoming builds, this build is a custom Dryad with a black walnut body, a wild Macassar Ebony top and fretboard, with a very very curly roasted maple neck (plus other goodies as per my usual neck laminate witchcraft).

I've become more known for my dye work lately, but truth be told, I'm more of a fan of natural wood instruments personally! I love the variety and character found in nature, and being able to craft an instrument out of woods with such unique character is always so rewarding. Especially once the oil hits.

Almost finished another Arcanist 7 string build!

I'm just waiting a little while longer for the gloss to fully cure before I move on to level sanding, buffing, polishing, and then assembly.

The woods on this build are a spalted maple top, curly maple body wings, roasted ash body core, and a Pomele Sapele back. The neck is also mostly Pomele Sapele with dyed curly maple accents and mixed veneers.

The dye work on this guitar was challenging but very rewarding. It's a lot of fun being creative with these colour schemes and finding different ways to connect all of the different parts of the guitar together with colour.

Another unique aspect to this build is that the neck isn't oiled, its actually clear polyurethane matte. Normally I only use hardwax oil finishes for my necks, but this time around the client wanted to go with a film finish on the neck. I'm very happy with how it turned out, though admittedly, I'm still a big fan of oiled necks myself!

Neck carving day for the next group of builds! Here's the first one done, a mix of Macassar Ebony, roasted curly Maple, Wenge, and Purpleheart. I love how these woods accent each other.

All of this neck is maple, just varying degrees of roasted and natural, and some dyed.

I have lots more to come soon, I've just been very occupied with my personal life lately, but April is looking like a great month for me to have a lot of work and progress to share!

The dye work is all done on the Siren build!

Next step is coating the body with epoxy sealer, then it's time to spray Brite Tone Gloss on the body! The neck will receive a hardwax oil finish after the gloss is applied.

Gotta love a sharp gouge!

I'm never outsourcing these parts of woodworking. Not to a factory, not to a CNC machine, not to a router, just nope. I love doing it this way. It's just so satisfying! 😁

It's making me want to get into building acoustic instruments. I should do that.

Not yet, but one day for sure.

I'm really excited to share that I'm currently building a guitar for the incredible

I've been a huge fan of this band for years, and listened to them for hundreds of hours, especially back in my old workshop. This guitar is also my 50th build, so it felt fitting to pay it forwards to an artist that has given me hours of joy, motivation, and inspiration.

If you haven't heard of them, check out their newest album Pachinko, its fantastic!

I can't wait to share more. With the fretwork done, the next step is to carve and shape the body which I'm just starting today.
