Black-bellied Plover

Not only did I get to see the Avocet but I was able to finally get a decent shot of a Black-bellied plover. There was a handful of them on the beach but this one seemed to prefer spending its time with a Yellow Legs over the other plovers.

American Avocet

Wandering the mud flats alone before taking a short flight over to some other shore birds to join in the search for food.

Semipalmated Sandpiper

There was a small group of sandpipers moving around the beach in the morning sun. This one didn’t move with the rest of the group and decided to hop around on the rocks instead.

Short-billed Dowitcher

Quite a few attempts were made to get a Willet in flight as they would periodically take flight and circle the field before landing again. It wasn’t too long before some other shore birds joined in such as some Yellow Legs and this Short-billed Dowitcher.

Great Blue Heron

I was watching this Great Blue fish just off the side of the road. There was a fair amount of fish breaking the surface of the water nearby but it was locked in on something. It proceeded to sn**ch what I believe was a small Eel out of the water, after a few shakes it took flight.

Pelecinid Wasp

My wife and niece found this one in our yard, none of us knew exactly what we were looking at. A large damselfly ? Small dragonfly ? But it seemed to have its tail wrapped around the grass which seemed odd. Quite surprised to learn it was a wasp.

Bald-faced Hornet

I’m not 100% sure on this ID but with the lack of yellow pigmentation I believe this is a Bald-faced Hornet. I found it grooming itself on a Black Eyed Susan.

Orange-belted Bumblebee

There were quite a few bees working away on this morning. Enough of them that it didn’t really matter where you stood, all you could hear was buzzing. I managed to capture this Orange-belted Bumblebee as it stuck its head into the flower on this heal all.
