White-throated Sparrow

I was walking down the trail when I started to hear this White-throated sparrow… and by hear I mean it had something important to say and wanted everyone to know. This little sparrow was drowning out birds feet away from me. In order to find it I had to venture off the trail through some of the brush and into a clearing.

Alder Flycatcher

Another species I have seen/heard regularly but have often been hidden in the deep brush or too far for any good photos. This time I found 3 right off the side of the trail that were chasing each other in the light vegetation.

Ring-necked Duck

This Ring-necked Duck had the pond to himself and had made its way towards me. He gave me a great look at his ringed neck which was a first for me.

Winter Wren

I’ve heard this species a few times before but was never able to see it. Now I know why. With its big voice I was looking for a bird a bit larger than its actual size. The winter wren is only about a 1/4 inch larger than a ruby throated hummingbird. Luckily this one took flight as I was looking in its general direction.

House Fly

The second fly captured last week. I felt so certain that it would take flight while I set up as the flies that I’ve tried to capture at our green bin would take flight from the smallest movements. But this little one sat perfectly still until I pulled away after getting my shots

Wolf spider

Found this Wolf spider hanging out in our lilac bush. This photo also displays telling a wolf and fishing spider apart as the wolf spider has two large eyes and its eyes will glow when flashed.

Moth (uncertain on species)

I was looking in the trees for any subjects and noticed this moth. I don’t know what I expected a moth to look like but I wouldn’t have guessed this.

In light of another loss within my wife’s family, there will be no photo today. Our thoughts are with our loved ones as we honor their memory.

Yellow-Footed March Fly

Flies have been a struggle to capture so far but this week I ended up capturing two different species. This Yellow-Footed March Fly was hanging out in one of our trees and was actually only found due to another insect on a leaf nearby.
