Eye to eye, I spent almost as much time thinking about which eyes suit each fish I create, as I do about the kind of patterns I want to give them.

The bigger fish get bigger eyes. Each made from wood rounds and embellished with blob style paint, just like the blob art canvases.

The smaller fish get a smaller eye using smooth round Nova Scotia beach stones, painted with a dollop of paint and a top dot.

One thing for sure, these eyes are on solid and won’t fall off.

Calling all plein air artisits!

Be part of this amazing, popular Nova Scotian art event and join other artists at beautiful Peggy's Cove, July 10-12 for Paint Peggy's Cove.

Local artists will be scattered all around the cove creating works on-site for tourists and visitors to see. Once completed, each day’s work, as well as studio pieces by the same artists, will be on view and for sale in a large Mongolian yurt (round tent) located a short walk from the Peggy’s Cove Information Centre.

Registration for Paint Peggy's Cove opens on Monday, April 13 at 9 a.m. and, as usual, spaces are limited. Spots will fill quickly, so get your mouse ready and sign up before they’re gone!

Registration is online only, please sign up at the following link:

Saturday morning practice. Scots Bay is one of my favourite beaches in Nova Scotia.

On a recent visit, there was still a big ice wall and the slush rolled with the ocean’s movement. It was a full moon high tide and so the water filled the marsh and flowed right up to cover the first step. Locals will tell you not to park too close or you may find your car floating away.

The closure of several museums and visitor information centres, including the one in Peggy’s Cove are worrisome. The recent provincial budget decisions in response to a $1.4 billion deficit are going to impact rural tourism and the cultural spaces that communities like ours rely on.

Initiatives like the Peggy's Cove Area Festival of the Arts are more than events on a calendar. They’re gathering spaces and they attract visitors. They support local artists and small businesses.
If arts funding isn’t protected, the consequences will reach far beyond the arts sector and into the economic and cultural life of communities like St. Margaret’s Bay.

I encourage the Peggy’s Cove Area Art Society, and other community members to publicly share their concerns and advocate for the protection of arts funding. I also hope Danielle Barkhouse - MLA for Chester-St.Margaret's and Nancy Hartling - Councillor for District 13 will listen to these voices and continue to support the cultural and economic life of St. Margaret’s Bay.
